ASSIGNMENT: CONFUCIANISM

What struck you most about the purpose and activities of Tzu Chi Foundation?

- Tzu Chi is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to relieve the

suffering of those in need and create a better world for all. Putting compassion into
action is at the heart of Tzu Chi's mission. Education, they propose to implement
education and jobs to people including the indigenous people as they supervise and
provide them the proper way in their life for their future. Humanity, they point to help
people apply and embrace the education four bodhisattvas’ spirit of kindness,
compassion, joy, and selfless giving as Tzu Chi’s guiding principle. Medicine intends to
provide open checkups as they also reach out to people that are grieving from sickness
or illnesses especially to those people that are financially unsteady. Lastly is the
environmental protection, they direct to protect our environment as they promote people
to join them as well for the betterment and fast recovery of our nature that could affect
us. In conclusion, I’m impressed by how generous, sincere, and determined their
organization is.

Explain in what ways do their generous deed reflect the core teachings of Mahayana Buddhism:
Seek complete enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings through insights and
compassion.

- From the mission,’ the plan purposed, it considered the teaching of Bodhisattva, in there
it tries to understand this reality through wisdom and compassion or in low being self-
less. The team showed how they lived out the education of Bodhisattva, the concept of
being selfless as they serve and act for all beings without any differentiation. One of the
education in Mahayana Buddhism is the Awakening, Buddhism, which sees the creation
as a realm of reincarnation, from which one may gain by attaining nirvana. In the
Mahayana tradition, the weight is less on nirvana and more on knowledge or wisdom,
the power of which constitutes awakening. From the efforts of every volunteers towards
oneself as they reach out for them, they could earn good karma.
