The Battle of Leyte Gulf

Reaction Paper

The Battle of Leyte Gulf, with over 200,000 naval personnel involved, is considered to have been
the largest naval battle of World War II and, by some standards, probably the largest naval battle in hist
ory. It was fought between the combined American and Australian forces against
the Imperial Japanese Navy in waters near the Philippine islands of Leyte, Samar, and Luzon, from 23- 26
of October 1944,as part of the invasion of Leyte, which aimed to separate Japan from the countries it ha
d invaded in Southeast Asia, which were a crucial source of industrial and oil supplies.
Japan had fewer capital ships left at the time of the battle than the Allied forces had total aircraft carrier
s, underlining the gap in strength of force at this point in its history.

This historical event has such a great impact to our society as being people who lives in Leyte today.
