Years, decades and centuries had passed since our archipelagic

country which is the Philippines was colonized by Spaniards. Based on my
own knowledge and understanding from our subject before which is the
Philippine History, we had tackled about the different events, those that are
the very most important events of the country, from the very first situation
of the Philippines when it was discovered down to the situations where
violence and abuses for the Filipino people took place and many other
more. It was imprinted in the minds of the Filipino people from different
generations until now the abuses and mistreatments of the Spaniards when
they governed the Philippines during their colonization on the early 16th
century. Within those years of mistreatments, abuse and violence the
Filipino people received from the hands of the Spaniards, everyone were
mute of exposing the assaults they had to deal with, even if they had
experienced such inequalities they remained silent as they were afraid and
had no powers. Until such time where a well-known propagandist, a poet
and an educator and also an eye surgeon came its way into the dreary
situations at that time, and led a very important life event of the history, a
revolution.
Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was brought into
the world in Calamba, Laguna Province, Philippines. A splendid man who
became capable in numerous dialects, a mere poet, and concentrated on
studying Medicine in Manila. A wise man who composed books to
communicate his thoughts regarding the public authority and composed the
paper so Filipino individuals can know. He only had a pen and paper instead
of guns and bombs when he fought for the Spaniards, a silent yet a powerful
way of battling for freedom and equality, he decided to have a quiet conflict
and not a bleeding war since he believes that it is the best way to acquire
opportunity. He had published many books and 2 of which are widely known
are the Noli Me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo. The two books
uncovered the ills of the Spanish provincial government and Filipino society
and through his compositions he uncovered the insensitive control of the
Spanish Government in our country. Jose Rizal communicates his thoughts
through words to individuals to go to bat for their country. He accepted that
everybody ought to be free.
Through his works, his battle to uncover the abominations of the
Spaniards turned into the motivation of an entire age towards opportunity.
He confidently spoke and became the voice of the whimpering Filipino
people in the hands of the Spaniards, he stood up and put himself into a
silent battle even though his life might be the exchange of it all. For me, I
admire everything about Dr. Jose Rizal, he being addressed as our National
Hero just speaks of all the things he did for us to achieve the freedom and
equal treatment we are experiencing until now. He also gave importance
and emphasis to the concept of education to all Filipino people in one of his
writings, where his perception about education is the establishment of the
society and is the very essential concept for Social advancement of the
country and through education the Filipino nation could be save from
dominations. For me, being a college student who knew Jose Rizal is one
of the amazing things to be grateful to and to look into the accounts of our
history as he became the inspiration not just to the people who are in line
with his passion and profession but to all the Filipino citizen especially the
youth. He had a lot of teachings left that could be of great help for us which
is to inspire us to focus on our education, to be aware of the realities
surrounding us which we might be get blinded of. Awareness for me is such
a great sense to adapt in this chaotic world, we need to be aware and be
educated of the things around us for us not to be fooled and controlled by
any one.
We see, Jose Rizal’s educational attainment leads us to a freedom
and equal treatments where our kababayans before had been graving
during the time of Spanish colonization. Another reason why I admired him
the most is the way he focuses on his principles and goals and not being
selfish by only focusing on himself, I mean he was actually born with a
purpose to help the Filipino people and so he focused on his goal of fighting
for the injustices that happened before. And this could be perfect example
for us youth, to see, to be aware and to be informed by the happenings
around us especially from the social and political aspects of our society. As
we closely look from the happenings around our society and to our country,
we can see some things that also happened during the time of Jose Rizal’s
reform to Spaniards. We just need to focus and educate ourselves. We
need to use our time wisely and by wisely means we need to use it in making
our self be educated, focus on self-improvements in order to be of help also
to other people.
