CALIBRATION OF SUBSONIC WIND TUNNEL

Aim

To calibrate the subsonic wind tunnel, the velocity at the test section against the fan velocity was
measured and analyzed.

Equipment required

1. Subsonic Wind tunnel

2. Manometer
Procedure

1. Initial reading in the manometer should be noted, before switching on the fan motor of
the wind tunnel.
2. Slowly raise the speed of the fan to 100 rpm(revolution per minute) and then note down
the difference in the manometer from initial reading.
3. Similarly note down the difference in the manometer readings for different speeds, by
raising the speed of the fan to a maximum limit of 900 rpm with a regular interval.
4. Calculate the velocity for each speed generated by the fan andits corresponding
difference in manometer reading.
5. Plot the graph between the velocity and corresponding speed in rpm.

Calculation and Tabulation:

Formula used:

1. Calculation of Velocity,

ρw∗g∗h∗2
Velocity, V =
√ ρa

V = Velocity at the test section in m/s.

ρw = Density of water = 1000 kg/m3.

ρa = Density of air = 1.225 kg/m3

g = Acceleration due to gravity m/s2.

h = Differences in the manometer reading.

Tabulation:
