General Guidelines for Relocation of Power Transmission Structures

Structural Technical Loadings

The structure should be placed at a point that the existing, previous or next, adjacent structures
would be imposed with less loading than it existing load condition.

Their existing adjacent deviation angles.

The adjacent tower shall have less deviation angle. It is an allowable practice in TNB that a new
tower to be place, at maximum, 2 degrees off set from a straight original centerline (from a zero
degree deviation angle tower)

Should be the new tower be placed at an adjacent to an angle tower, it shall be placed on the
outside of its passed deviation angle, as it shall reduce the deviation angle of its adjacent
structure.

Their adjacent weight and/or wind spans.

The new structure shall be placed at a span less than its existing original span in such a way that
it will reduce the conductor’s span loads (weight and wind)

Safer Location

The tower shall be placed at safe location in such a way that there would be least risk of it to be
exposed to damages.

Avoid placing a high voltage tower / structure on outside of a road bend or junction. This is to ensure
that if a vehicle loses controls, it would not skid on to the structure and impose more severe
damaging consequences.

Should there be no other feasible location, the tower’s leg area, where outside of the road edge
facing the structure shall be protected with adequate shielding structure. One should bear in mind
that this on the other hand would impose another danger on the malfunction vehicle’s occupants.

Adequate Crossings Angle

Notwithstanding of relocation requirements, the new locations shall consider requirement on the
crossings of road, river or any navigational path shall be crossed at as close to a right angle as
possible.

The crossing angle shall never be less than 60 degrees as stated in most electrical crossing
requirements literatures if the above requirement is impossible.
