Policy
The infection control team should be responsible for surveillance activities in identified areas
of the hospital.

 Surveillance activities should be appropriately directed towards the identified high
risk areas.
 Collection of surveillance data should be an ongoing process.
 Verification of data should be done by the infection control team on regular basis.
 In case of notifiable disease, the relevant information should be passed to PIED Cell
(Prevention of Epidemics And Infectious Disease Cell)
 Scope of surveillance activities incorporates tracking and analyzing of infection risks,
rates & trends. It should also include monitoring the effectiveness of housekeeping
services.

 Surveillance activities include monitoring the compliance with hand hygiene


guidelines. This shall be done at a minimum once every month using modified WHO
hand hygiene observation tool.
