Dear Parents:
It’s an honor to be able to teach your children in the Pathway to Orchestra program. Here are a few
highlights about our course:

I. Brief Bio: I have been teaching music for 18 years. I am a mother of three, inventor, author,
musician, and licensed realtor! I work part-time at Underwood Elementary and part-time as
lecturer of music education at UNC-Chapel Hill. My full bio can be found on our classroom

Making music positively changed my life. I look forward to partnering with you in your child’s
education this year.

II. Focus: This year we are focusing on making music with our friends and growing in our musical
abilities.

III. Practice Assignments: Students take classes Monday – Thursday. Students take
instruments home on Thursdays. Students should practice at least 15 minutes - 30 minutes
between Friday and Sunday. Practice Assignments are found on our website

IV. WEBSITE: Our classroom websites will be the primary source to find information regarding
our class. The website is updated every week. Please check the site every Friday for updates.

V. Grades:
• 40% for weekly skill assessments
• 30% for tests/quizzes
• 20% for classwork
• 10% for homework
