COURSE SYLLABUS
I. Course Title: ADVANCED GRAMMAR C1
II. Course Code: NVA003.3
III. Course Credits: 2 credits (Theory: 1 credit, Practice: 1 credit)
IV. Course Prerequisites: Students are required to have passed the two courses in Grammar B2.
V. Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to
 Systemize all sentence types and structures in English
 Distinguish the uses of English tenses and verb forms
 Examine all the complex and diversified ways of expressing meanings by using modals
 Recognize and distinguish the uses and forms of passive form
 Recognize and classify English nouns
 Examine all the complicated uses of English articles, explain and practice the use of articles in all
kinds of texts
 Distinguish between determiners and pronouns and their uses
 Recognize and classify adjectives, acquire all the rules about fixed and unfixed positions of adjectives
to express the proposition
 Recognize adverbs, examine the meaning and function of all the types of adverbs and the positions of
adverbs in texts
 Distinguish verbal complements
 Distinguish different kinds of prepositions and adverb particles, recognize all the forms of phrasal
verbs, emphasize practice to use prepositions and phrasal verbs skillfully
 Apply acquired knowledge into exercises and language production
 Justify the uses of acquired grammatical structures in given and self-produced texts
 Develop key transferable skills and attitudes

IX. Course Policies


 Attendance will be checked every class meeting either in terms of short quizzes, activity
participation or roll calling. Students who are absent for more than 20% of the total number
of class periods will be forbidden from taking the final examination.
 Penalty for lateness or skipping some periods may vary according to lecturers’ policies.
 Absence should be informed to lecturers before or after the day. Students are responsible for
getting the information they have missed. There are no make-ups for in-class writing, quizzes, the
midterm, or the final exam.
 The use of mobile phones and/or laptops for personal purposes without lecturers’ permission is
forbidden during class time.
 Cheating and plagiarism are severely punished.
