NAME OF ACTIVITY: Case Study #1
TITLE OF THE CASE: Caught by Surprise
NAME OF FACULTY: Marie Grace B. Tambalque

1. Question: What is the involvement of the HR department, particularly in HR planning regarding the expansion?
Answer: HR management exercises must be organized to decide how many workers are necessary for the
expansion. They need to be able to predict the exact location of where the organization is going, what is needed
to get there and how the organization can get there.

2. Question: What should Ben do with the proposed expansion?

Answer: Ben should speak first to Mr. Tomas about the planned extension, that the proposal had not been heard
or noticed and that he needed a little time to take appropriate steps and wiser decisions according to the plan.
Objectives must be the first to be set in order to coordinate a desired action with them.

3. Question: What should have been done prior to the meeting on the proposed expansion?
Answer: Before the meeting on the potential expansion, a collaboration between HR and executive leaders was
held so that HR could increase questions about where current workers fit into the expansion plan or where there
would be a need to hire.

4. Question: What should be done so that nobody will be caught by surprise in the future?
Answer: As with every significant business shift, communication is the key to keeping your team on side as
you grow your business. Along with the technological advancement nowadays, chief executives may send
memos, fax, e-mails, etc. before proceeding with the go signal of the proposed expansion or even in any other
projects. They must ensure that all the employees are aware of what they are going to do with the organization
since they are also a part of it. By doing so, we may avoid a “caught by surprise” scenario in the future.

SECTION: ECON 1-2
DATE OF SUBMISSION: November 25, 2020
NAME OF ACTIVITY: Case Study #2
TITLE OF THE CASE: Test Scores versus Letter of
Recommendation
NAME OF FACULTY: Marie Grace B. Tambalque

1. Question: Should Vangie disregard the test scores and hire Angela Joy? Explain your decision.
Answer: Vangie should not disregard the test scores of Angela Joy. The test scores are based on the
standardized employment and personality testing of the company. The test scores are very important component
in determining and hiring best fit employees for a certain job vacancy. I believe that Mr. Max Ditangan will surely
understand and greatly appreciate when Vangie makes a very thorough explanation about the hiring process that
needs to be considered. Moreover, test scores are indications about the knowledge of an employee, this will help
reduce employee turnover and hire a highly motivated and compatible workforce. I believe that Mr. Ditangan
will fully understand this matter.

2. Question: Would it be kind to hire or not to hire Angela Joy?

Answer: With the given test results, it would be kind if Angela Joy would not be hired. It simply means that
she still has a lot of areas for improvement. Vangie just needs to explain the reason of not hiring Angela Joy as
of now. That would be kind enough. Vangie may even suggest to Mr. Ditangan that Angela Joy maybe considered
in other job opening of the company that would best suit her.

3. Question: What is your recommendation to help Vangie solve this problem?

Answer: Vangie may also suggest to Mr. Ditangan to give Angela Joy an on-the-job-training opportunity,
without salary. In this way, Angela Joy will have a chance to observe how the operations in the sales and
marketing department go. After a certain reasonable period of time, Angela Joy may apply again and take the
tests in order to check if she now qualifies for the job. The company must not neglect the test results at all times.
