a) Begin with 50 stalks.

b) Pull 1 and set it aside an observer.

c) Close your eyes while you divide the remaining 49 stalks.
d) Table the stalks in your right hand.
e) Pull 1 stalk from the tabled pile and place it between your left pinky and ring
finger.
f) Now pull 4 stalks at a time from the bundle in your left hand.
g) Keep pulling 4 at time until you have 4 or less remaining in your left hand.
i) Place those remaining stalks between the left ring and middle finger.
j) Now pick up the stalks you just pulled and hold them in your left hand.
k) Again pull 4 at a time until you have 4 or less remaining.
l) Place those remaining stalks between your left middle and index finger.
m) Record the number of stalks in your left hand. You should have either 5 or 9
stalks.
n) Now set those 5 or 9 stalks aside.
aa) Pick up the stalks you just pulled and return them to your left hand.
bb) Again close your eyes while you divide the stalks in your left hand.
cc) As before, pull one from the tabled pile and plae it between the pinky and ring
finger.
dd) Pull 4 at time until 4 or fewer remain.
ee) Place those remaining between the ring and middle finger.
ff) Return the tabled pile to your left hand and continue pulling 4 at time until 4
or fewer remain.
gg) Place those 4 or fewer stalks between your middle and index finger.
hh) Record the number of stalks in your left hand. You should have either 4 or 8
stalks.
ii) Place those stalks with the ones you set aside after the first division.
a) Again pick up the stalks you just pulled, and close your eyes while you divide
them.
b) Pull one from the tabled pile and place it between the pinky and ring finger.
c) Pull 4 at a time until 4 or fewer remain.
d) Place those remaining stalks between the ring and middle finger.
e) Return the stalks you just pulled to your left hand.
f) Pull 4 at a time until 4 or fewer remain.
g) Place those 4 or fewer between the middle and index finger.
h) Record the number of stalks. You should have either 4 or 8.
i) This completes the first stalk manipulation, and will form the first line of
your kua.
aa) Pick up all of the stalks except the observer and repeat this procedure 5 more
times to form the remaining lines.
bb) Remember to always build your kua from the bottom up.
