Phillip Lim got deep into geology this season. This collection featured geode-inspired

embroidery on organza. Geodes are those rock like mineral formations that split open to reveal

swirls of many-hued crystal. Lim's embroideries captured geode-inspired silk prints. Lim took on

the variegated palette and texture of seemingly monotone landscapes, translating that quality into

metal-mottled, patch worked, and pearled leathers. Lim developed knee-length skirt made from

contrasting leathers as well as the wide-leg cuffed trousers or the pieces in sherbet-toned

jacquard. [ CITATION MAY13 \l 1033 ].

2.4.9 Work done by Graeme Black

The collection was inspired by a visit to the Gallery of Minerals in The British Museum ,

Black using the striations and organic markings of quartz, hessonite, heliodor and andradite as

the starting point for his prints , textures and color palette.

The silhouette was precise: Wide-sleeved, short jackets in silk tweeds, cashmere and fur,

were allied to short, petal-curved or bell skirts. Cocoon-shape coats opened to reveal feathered

and jeweled collars and fitted bustiers, decorated with metallic embroidery.

Cocktail dresses were generally strapless, in tiers or soft pleats of organza in shimmering rust,

bronze, black or cobalt tones which echoed the jewel-colors of the minerals which began Black's

creative process.[ CITATION HIL09 \l 1033 ]

2.5 Summary of the Chapter

The chapter covers literature review by stating the theme that a result of million years is

strong as compared to a fast process. Then the chapter describes the literature review in context

to the project’s theme by various researchers, analysts and bloggers. Related work in the field of

design and particularly fashion design inspired by organic textures has been discussed. How

designers interpret their concepts either in cut-lines or layers has been elaborated.
