Phase – II: School Internship (Online Mode)
INTRODUCTION

The broad aim of school internship is that the student-teacher has the best possible
introduction to the teaching field. Major responsibility rests with the cooperating teacher to
set reasonable and specific objectives befitting the individual ability and development of the
student teacher.

The main objective of school internship programmed is to achieve a change in the behavior
of trained student-teacher. Internship is practical education. Through internship programmed
intern acquire more knowledge of the job and learn or sharpen the needed skills, attitudes
and values associated with efficient performance off their job.

In phase II of internship the student-teacher were usually attached to a particular

school to practice teaching before they become an actual certified teacher. But these days the
school internship hit different due to pandemic crisis of Covid-19 caused by Corona virus.
The school internship was commenced in an online mode starting from 5 th May 2021 to 18th
May 2021. Just like that of simulated teaching and micro-teaching, the teacher divides the
whole class into three main groups again and each group has three in charge among the
faculty members as a facilitator.

The school internship was literally like a practice teaching for a student-teachers
before they become an actual certified teacher and it was carried out in the form of simulated
online mode using Zoom class. There are sixteen (16) students-teachers in group-1, and
supervised by- Sir J.Lalsangzuala, Miss Jane C. Vanlalmuanpuii and Miss Lalmuankimi. The
name and roll nos. of group-1 are as follows-

In this online mode of internship, each of the students-teacher was expected to

deliver or present two (2) lessons in each of the pedagogy. The duration of all the classes
was 25 minutes and the students-teacher created/scheduled their own Zoom class and
shared/provide the link to the whatsapp group on or before 9:00 AM each morning as
expected.
Each group i.e group1, 2 and 3 has three classes each in the morning shift and
again there are two or three classes in the afternoon shift randomly supervised by their own
faculty in charge. The presentation or the delivery of the lessons was mostly done with the
help of power point presentation and screen sharing. The students-teacher also grabbed every
available material as for teaching learning materials which can be suited to online classes as
far as possible.

The student teachers are expected to present two lessons from each of the
pedagogy. Each presentation or delivery of the lessons was expected to be done with the help
of supporting teaching aids and as the class was done through online mode the student
teachers were allowed to use a power point or through screen sharing to support their
teachings or to make the pupils more clear with the topic. At first the student teacher was so
nervous to conduct the online class through zoom and feel so worried on how she will spend
her 25 minutes through online class and then she make every effort for doing the best she
can. She now realizes her potential through the hard time like this time of crisis. Then now,
she is having the appropriate mental resources for such a situation of Pandemic crisis. She is
well equipped to do her job efficiently.

The student teacher delivered the following topics from pedagogy 1 and 2.

1. CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF EXISTING TIME TABLE

The time table is said to be the second clock which indicates all the
activities undertake in school. It shows the hours of school work or subjects, the teacher
at work and at rest, the rooms being used in a certain period, recreational time, time of
roll call, time of morning assembly, time of drill, games and other co-curricular activities
and time of interval. Time table is a mirror that reflects the entire educational program
followed in the school. This is the structure of the time table and can be simply done by
looking at each level of the structure separately and then specifying the inter relationships
among them. So, the required information for every level of the layer structure obtained
from the analysis process.

From the above time table, the curriculum is the more important
document when preparing a schedule because it includes all the subjects and their perquisites
required for the evaluation process, arranged in some particular order based on a block
system, where each block is specified for certain subjects by relating to some criteria such as
curriculum based. This time table is prepared by the Headmaster and staffs of this school.
There are 8 periods in one day. The duration of the class is 40 minutes. The class starts at
9:00 AM in the morning. The school hours then ends at 3:30 PM in the evening. There is a
20 minutes short break from 11:10-11:30 AM and 40 minutes lunch break starting from
12:50 PM - 01:30 PM. First period of every Monday is used for devotions where the students
and teachers both participate in the programs.

The following are the usefulness of the time table for Government
Pianghleia High School.

i) Time table eliminates the wastage of time: Undoubtedly, time table is a planned
and used to distribute activities for all of the student and the teacher as well.
Therefore, Government Pianghleia High School time table also helps them to have
equal works in a school period.
ii) It ensures attention to every subject: Periods are allotted to different subjects
according to their importance and nature.
iii) Brings system in the school life: The time table in the school provides work for
student and keeps them busy and thereby helps in maintaining discipline. In a
school where there is no proper time table, there seems to be problems associated
with discipline maintenance in the school.
iv) Ensure regularity: Their time table makes them regular in the teaching and learning
process, as we have seen from the time table, the schedule is tight and there is
hardly leisure time for both the students and the teachers.
v) Psychological value: The arrangement of time table is prepared in such a way that
the students and the teachers get enough rest and could refresh themselves from
fatigue. In this subject arrangement, the tough subjects are placed first in the time
table so that the students may not feel bored. The easiest and light subject is put
mostly in afternoon shift to make the students active.

Though they used the time table judiciously, on the other hand there
are also some limitations:
 The working hour (6 hours and 30 Minutes) per day is too lengthy for the secondary
stage.
 The total period does not include the time for library period or the guide study.
 The period does not give more time for co-curricular activities.
 The working hours of secondary time table is almost full for theoretical study.
Therefore, the time table was designed efficiently by the school headmaster and the
teaching staffs which neither requires teachers to work several consecutive periods nor
students to go learning the same subjects for a continuous period. The time table was
prepared in a way that the students could have physical as well as mental health in
such a way that it provides the students a time for learning the curriculum, a time for
spiritual growth and a time for physical health which all were crucial and necessary
for creating a sound environment for learning.

2. MANAGEMENT OF MORNING PRAYER AND CO- CURRICULAR

ACTIVITIES

 Morning Prayer:
In Government Pianghleia High School, morning devotion or Morning
Prayer is given importance. Every 1 period of Monday is used for devotion. In this
devotion, arrangements are made for the leader of devotion, preacher and song
conductor. In this, the students as well as the teachers are involved. Bible reading and
prayer are normally done by the students and the teacher delivers short sermon. The
Morning Prayer or the devotion is very helpful for the students. It helps the students
for their spiritual development and in experiencing Christ.

 Co-curricular activities:
Co-Curricular activities refers to programs and learning experiences
that complement, in some way, what the students are learning in school or outside
school. It means that the activities which are prepared for the students to develop their
minds and body in or outside the school. In Sport, Government Pianghleia High
School performed very well. The school has its Annual Sports every year. In the
school annual sports, all the students and the teachers are divided into different house
and all the students are participating in the sport items. Football, Volleyball, long
jump, high Jump, Races, Table tennis, Quiz, debates and other sport items are the
important items of the annual sport. The school also went for excursion within the state
funded by theGovernment of Mizoram.

Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) is a formal organization formed

by parents and teachers in the institution. Through this association, the teachers can share the
academics works and performance of the students and their behavior. In Government
Pianghleia High School, PTA meeting is held every year.

3. WRITING OF CRITICAL REPORT ON SCHOOL LIBRARY

A Library is a building or room containing collections of books,

periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music (which can enhance or enlarge the
knowledge of the persons) for use or borrowing by the public or the members of an
institution.

In school, a library is a very important source of knowledge for the

students as well as for the teachers. It can have a huge impact on the academic achievement
of the students. It develops the important habit of reading among the students. It also
enlarges the knowledge of the students. Thus, the school library plays a great role in the life
of the students by serving as the store of knowledge.

The importance of library in a school cannot be over emphasized.

While the role of the school library remains constant, its design, digital platform, strategies
and tools could change as technology changes.

School libraries help to:

i) Impact positively on the academic achievement of the students. Students can

perform better during examination by reading various books.
ii) Facilitates the work of the classroom teacher and ensures each student has
equitable access to resources, irrespective of home opportunities and constraints.
iii) Run independent learning programs, which integrate information resources and
technologies.
iv) Equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in a constantly changing
technological, social and economic environment.
v) Colabotate with classroom teachers to plan, implement and evaluate inquiry-based
programs that will ensure students acquire skills to collect, critically analyse and
organize information, problem solve and communicate their findings
vi) Provide and promote quality fiction to develop and sustain in students the habit of
reading for pleasure and to enrich students’ intellectual, aesthetic, cultural and
emotional growth.
vii) Cater for differences in learning and teaching styles through the provision of, and
equality of access to, a wide range of curriculum resources- fiction and non-fiction,
digital, print, audio and video.
viii) Provide teachers with access to relevant curriculum information and professional
development materials within and outside the school; and opportunities to
cooperatively plan, implement and evaluate learning program.

Government Pianghleia High School has been functioning for more than 10 years may be
due to lack of funding and maintenance, the library has been degrading and is almost useless
at present. In recent years students were allowed to borrow books from the library. But now,
there has been a very limited time and free period for the students to have a visit on the
library and has been in proper use as it supposed to be. The Government and the school have
to lack into these concerns for the sake of the students.

4. WRITING A REPORT ON MANAGEMENT PHYSICAL ASSISTS AND

BEAUTIFICATION OF SCHOOL CAMPUS

Government Pianghleia High School has good infrastructures for

strengthening the school. The physical assets include School Drinking Water Facility, Toilets
and Wash Rooms. The school boundary or campus is around 2800 square feet. The school
building is Rectangle-shaped. There are four classrooms, two rooms for Class IX, two rooms
for Class X. The ground floor is used for Staff room and Principal room. The upper floor is
used for Class IX and X room. There is a large room for the teaching staffs and a smaller
room for the Headmaster and the non-teaching staffs. The schools do not have a
playground/court yard, assembly’s rooms are conducted at the top of the building. The
school use Republic high school field for annual Sports which is not far from the School.
The school is very lucky as the field is not very far from the school.

The school has an ample drinking water for the students, a water cooler. So, the
school drinking water facility is quite good. The school also has a series of taps for washing
hands etc. Toilet is very important in every schools and offices. There are separate toilets for
boys and girls and also a separate toilet for the teachers near the staff room. These toilets are
normally clean and hygienic and the students clean them every Friday afternoons. The
school has proper beautification items like flowers and plants. The school has also given an
importance in cleaning the campus or the compound. The compound is very clean. The
cleaning of the campus is held in every Friday afternoon. Cleaning the class room is done by
the students every morning before the class started and in the evening when the class is over.
The class teacher made an arrangement for sweeping the class room. Although, the class
room assets are old, but the assets are clean and tidy. The school has a separate computer
room which is also used as a library and a laboratory for science students. As the school is
developing, they are planning to develop these things in the coming years.

5. PREPARATION OF PROFILE OF THE SCHOOL AND SWOT ANALYSIS:

THE SCHOOL PROFILE OF GOVT. PIANGHLEIA HIGH SCHOOL

Government Pianghleia High School was established in the year 1981. It is

located in Electric Veng, Aizawl, near Presbyterian Church. The school campus and
infrastructure are equipped well and is good enough for the students and the school is also
the examination centre of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC). The motto of the school
is ‘Live for Life’. The School has a beautiful campus and offers a peaceful learning
environment. They have a uniform custom of dark grey skirt for girls and pants for boys, and
they also have a blouse, necktie and sweater for boys and girls.

A study has been undertaken by student teachers to identify the school’s

internal strengths and weaknesses, its external opportunities and threats as well. A SWOT
analysis is often used at the start of or as part of a strategic planning exercise. The
framework is considered a powerful support for decision-making because it enables an entity
to uncover opportunities for success that were previously unarticulated or to highlight threats
before they become overly burdensome. The school is fortunate to have the senior teachers
who have a lot of experience in teaching. The teachers are all trained teachers and the school
location is also good. They had great teachers who care about their students. The students are
fortunate to have a support from the Community and their parents.
There is a good cooperative between the non-teaching staff and teaching staff
that help in the collaborative spirit among various staff members. The faculties do not have
enough time to train and experiment with new technologies. The students are not able to
participate enough in co-curricular and sports activities as they only concentrate in school
syllabus. And they lack of funding for specific sports / programs. There can be no
improvement in speaking English because the main communication between the teacher and
the students is our mother tongue. During the class period usually the students are not given
the chance to speak up their own ideas and thoughts, only lecturing methods are applied in
the class. The school can provide computer for the students and can have computer class
once in a week.

In every Wednesday last two second period is used for learning different
computer courses. The school does not have a proper planning in every way. As it is located
near the road, it is not safe for the students. Additional demand of instructor for existing
technology staff is needed. There is no planning of curriculum / activities.
