SHOULD GOVERNMENTS USE THEIR RESOURCES TO HELP TO STOP THE

SPREAD OF COVID-19 AMONG THE REFUGEES AND POOREST IMMIGRANTS?

From my point of view, governments, should definitely use their resources to help to
stop the spread of Covid-19 among all the population. What I am trying to say is that
refugees and migrants belong to this population, so they must be treated with the same
importance.

One of the facts that supports my view is that in a study, it is confirmed that there are
five hospitals (run by non-governmental organizations and foreign governments) in
Cox’s bazar with a total of 340 beds in the encampment at Cox’s Bazar. The
worst-case scenario exhausts that capacity just 58 days into the outbreak, and would
result in more than 2,000 deaths. Since they had never had the necessary hygiene
measures, refugees need now even more help than other citizens. Moreover, the
majority of the world's 25.9 million refugees and 41.3 million internally displaced
persons are in developing countries that are only starting now to be affected by the
pandemic, so they are not prepared enough to overcome the obstacles that will be
presented. If governments reach a compromise, the effects of the pandemic will be
reduced. It would be a great opportunity to invest their resources and save lives.

As I see it, governments should act offering their funds to make contagions avoided.
Refugees are in need and the government’s work is to cooperate with the population
indifferently of the  kind of group they belong.
