Gilgamesh’s Greatness Weakness

For me, I see Gilgamesh negative traits as an arrogant, and a greedy King. I wouldn’t categorize
him as a lustful King. Why? Because the main purpose of him, having sex with all the married
woman before they had sex with their husband is power and not pleasure. He is doing this to
show that he can, to show his authority, to show that he can do whatever he wants because he is
the king and doing that explains why I said that he is arrogant. Another thing that proves his
arrogance is him Killing Humbaba, another way to prove that he can. For me, a King who really
wants to prove his strength, will attack another kingdom to prove his Kingdoms strength. But for
Gilgamesh, he is doing this thing for himself, which we can relate from him being a greedy
person. Another thing that proves that he is greedy, is him trying to be immortal. He wants to be
immortal to escape his faith of dying and knowing that dying proves that he is just an ordinary
man, and nothing is special about him. But arrogance and greed are not his weaknesses. For me,
being arrogant and greedy is the result of being afraid. If Gilgamesh is not afraid, why will he
sleep with another mans wife after their wedding. Why will he show his strength to a mere
guardian of a forest. He did those things because he is afraid that time may come that people
from his Kingdom will turn against him. The reason why he searched for immortality, is he’s
afraid to die, to suffer, to experience what his friend experienced. To sum it all up, in my
opinion, Gilgamesh greatness weakness is he is afraid.
