The sources of the energy in our city:-

-solar energy(renewable, environment friendly)

-waste incineration(renewable, environment friendly)

alternative-energy

How does each work?:-

Solar electricity:

1- Photons from the sun hit a solar cell ,knock electrons loose from
their atoms

2- Solar panels generate DC electricity

3- Solar inverters convert DC electricity from solar panels to AC

electricity

Waste incineration:

1-Combustion of waste

2-Produces heat

3-Heat turns turbines

4-Turbines turn generators that generate electricity

Suitable places for each and its availability during the day
and night:-
Solar energy:

· Place with high sun intensity therefore less cloudy place

· Low humidity

· It’s not available all the time, only during day

Waste energy:

· place near power stations, farms, houses, recycling garbage in a closed

cycle economy

· it’s available all the time

Advantages and disadvantages of each:-

Solar energy:
>Advantages are:-
-pollution free and causes no greenhouse gases
-renewable clean energy
-virtually no maintenance as solar panels last over 30 years
-safer than traditional electric current

>Disadvantages are:-
-Very expensive to buy and install solar panels
-No solar power at night so there is a need for a large battery bunk
-consumes a big amount of space
-lower solar production in the winter months
Waste energy:
>Advantages are:-
-decrease quantity of waste
-production of heat and power
-prevents production of methane gas
-eliminates harmful germs and chemicals

>disadvantages are:-
-it is expensive
-it may encourage more waste production as citizens won’t focus on
recycling and waste reduction
-the sites are often dangerous
