Shell Voicings

Shell voicings contain the root, 3rd and 7th of the intended chord.
This example demonstrates the root location on the 5th string.

This example demonstrates the root location on the 2nd string. By doing this a greater amount of dissonance is creat-
ed simply by having the root shifted the octave. This creates an interval of a 2nd between the 7th of the chord and the
root itself.

offer possibilities of four part voicings. The concern with this option, due to the stretch required to perform, is that the
individuals ability will determine how low on the neck a voicing is possible.
