Introduction:
Objective:
To develop a online software which provides anonymous and secure mechanism for both
victim and witnesses to report a crime to police
Literature survey:
National surveys demonstrate that millions of crimes go unreported. Several reasons may
contribute to this lack of reporting and we are investigating these potential reasons and how they
may be addressed. We are developing an online system that provides an anonymous and secure
mechanism for both victims and witnesses to report crimes to police. The system is being
implemented and tested on a university campus. Potential users (i.e., students, staff) were
surveyed to determine their intent to use the system. Respondents claimed to report crimes
already, which is in contrast with the findings from the national surveys. Our respondents found
the online system useful, accessible, and safe to report crime, but the type of crime and the
urgency of response is a determinant in the decision to use the system versus reporting it to a live
person.
Proposed System:
In our day to day life many crimes go unreported due to several reasons such as,
unwillingness of the victim, hassles to report a crime, fear of recognition & many more reasons.
To overcome these obstacles we are introducing a new application, “ONLINE CRIME
REPORTING”. It is a web based service implemented in ASP.NET & C# as front end & SQL
SERVER as back end. Users register themselves & may report crime & appropriate actions are
taken while not disclosing the reporter’s identity
i. Crime Reporting forms, proof attachments. On form submission an SMS goes to regional
police officer to inform the type of crime & other much more details in email.
ii. Facilitate crime and criminals search – region, crime-type, gender, age group wise etc.
iv. Recognition of citizen and other users’ contribution in solving criminal issues.
v. Secure registration and profile management facilities for detectives and security agencies.
vi Time to time inform the alertness in their city to users via sms or email
Software Requirement
Front End: C# .Net, ASP .Net (Microsoft Visual Studio 2005)
Back End: SQL Server 2005.
Hardware Requirement:
• Intel Pentium IV Processor.
• 512 MB RAM
• 40 GB Hard Disk.

Scope of the Project:
We believe people might find such as system a convenient alternative for reporting crime that
addresses their concerns when having to report a crime. . Our respondents found the online
system useful, accessible, and safe to report crime, but the type of crime and the urgency of
response is a determinant in the decision to use the system versus reporting it to a live person.
Such applications are used by police stations to allow public to report the crime anonymously.
