Syntax
- Syntax is the arrangements of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in
language.
- Syntax is also the grammatically structure of sentence.

Syntax vs. Diction

Diction- diction is about the choice of words.
Syntax stands for arrangements.

Samples;
The boy jumped happily.
The girl sang beautifully.
The dog barked loudly.
Each sentence has the same syntax. It follows the structure subject-verb-adverb. However, each
sentence uses different diction.

The boy jumped happily.

The boy happily, jumped.
Happily, the boy jumped.
The sentences hast the same diction. Each sentence uses the same four words. However , each
sentence has different word order to create different syntax. So, diction and syntax focus on
different things. Diction focuses on word choice, while syntax focuses on the order and structure
of words and phrases.

The Minimalist Model by Noam Chomsky
- The Minimalist program (Chomsky,1995) aims to achieve a minimal formulation of
grammatical theory. We can approach this goal either by reducing the set of theoretical
apparatus to a minimum and assume only rules that apply least effort and as a last resort.
The language faculty is, simply put, all of the neural and biological mechanisms invovlved in the
uniquely human ability to speak or language.
The Universal Grammar and Parametric Variation
Universal Grammar proposing that humans possess innate faculties related to acquisition of
language.

Universal Grammar is also the theoretical or hypothetical system of categories, operations, and
principles shared by all human language.

Parametric variation in linguistic theory refers to the systematic grammatical variation permitted
by the human language faculty.

Parametric variations can be used to define variations in the deck section along the length of the
bridge.
