INTRODUCTION: We use ‘a’ before nouns which begin with consonants.

Example: a ball, a cap

We use ‘an’ before nouns which begin with vowels.

Example: an ant , an umbrella

We use ‘the’ in the place of ‘a’ or ‘an’ when we talk about a noun second time.

Example: I saw a house .The house is big.

We also use ‘the’ before some proper nouns .

Example : The Earth , The Sun , The Ganga etc.
