Hardens on mixing with water PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION COMPONENT PROPORTION Blast Fumace Slag 100 % CHEMICAL COMPOSITION GGBS consists principally of the oxides of calcium, silicon, aluminium and Magnesium with low Solubility in water giving a weak alkaline ‘solution. Wet GGBS, particularly Conerete, mortar or slurry, can dry the skin and cause alkali burns, Ventilation: Where practical, suitable means Of dust collection / suppression should be applied as necessary to maintain acceptable ait bome dust levels Persons with a history of respiratory itiness or reduced pulmonary function Should avoid work places with high dust levels, Personal Protection: In dust environments, the ise of fter masks and tight fitting goggies is advised. Use of impervious gloves, boots and Glothing to protect the skin from contact with dust and wet GGBS is recommended. Following work with GGBS, a shower with ‘soap and water is recommended. Flammability: GGBS is ‘Non-combustibie, SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION Handling and Storage : GGBS should be stored away from moisture, steam, acid or acid fumes, in containers that prevent ingress of moisture as this will cause it to set and hardened in storage. Concrete or steei bins and silos, or plastic lined paper sacks are the most usual forms of storage. Transportation is usually in bulk road tankers, Spils and Disposals: Spils may be cleaned up by any Gry method such as, broom, shovel or vacuum device, with care taken to minimise dust evolution into the worker environment.
