The Judeo-Christian revelation, asit comes to human beings in. thiss life, consstin the free
and gracious action by which God addresses his elect people. This revelation,
tien inchoately to Israel through the prophets of the OT,
isperfected and made universal through Jesus Christ andthe
apostes its communicated by a combination of words and deeds
The Judeo-Christian revelation is revealed to us as human beings during
our mortal time in this world. Such a revelation was chosen to be
revealed to us by God. This means that we cannot presume to know or
understand such revelations unless it is in God's will. It shows in his free
and gracious choice that God loves us enough to reveal or to share with
us his own knowledge. After all, as an infinite and almighty God, there isno real obligation to communicate with us mere mortal human creatures
with his own knowledge, much less intimate self-knowledge. Ina
religious context, itis a deep personal conversion on the part of the
recipient. In this case, God chooses to reach out to his elect people, or
those he has chosen.
Judeo-Christianity does not mean the to be a substitute for either
Christianity or Judaism. However, what it highlights is the continuity of
these two traditions and religions. It is said here that such revelation was
given inchoately or in a beginning or early stage through the prophets of
the Old Testament. This is why in the Judeo-Christian revelation, the Old
testament is of importance. It is seen here how God was able to
communicate with the prophets or those he has called upon as his
chosen people. An example would be Genesis 12-17 in which God has
spoken to Abraham and made a covenant with him. Itis said that such
covenant has been the dawn or start of the formal revelation of the
covenant of grace, in which God had has elected to reach out to humanity
and graciously save those he would save for himself. Israel, "The Land of
Milk and Honey" is the land promised and given by God to Abraham and
his descendants. They are his chosen people. Now, there are lots of other
prophets that God had spoken to and through, such as the prophet
Jeremiah who has revealed God's judgment on the people for being
wicked and their failure to trust God; he made revelations of false and
insincere worship. Another example is the prophet Isaiah who revealed
that Jesus Christ would be the one to save humanity from sin. Now while
there are a lot of revelations and instances wherein God has spoken in
the Old Testament, it is in the New Testament wherein this has been
perfected. Salvation through OT was for the chosen people only.
However, with the birth of God himself through Jesus Christ the son,
such revelation was made universal in which salvation is not only for
Israel but also for those who would accept Christ and live through him. It
is perfect since instead of the revelation being through partial revelations
through prophets, it is significantly made perfect when God himself
reveals himself through the Son.
The last part shows that it is shown not merely by words, but also by
deeds, This means that while the sacred texts are important and
significant, itis not confined to there only. It is a combination of outward
deeds and their inspired interpretation. Itis expressed and
communicated in words, gestures, and other means.
