Abstract. The steelmaking industry in several countries has applyied the thin slabs continuous
casting technology, which produces 40 to 90 mm thickness slabs, in order to improve the
flexibility, productivity and to reduce costs. An equipment that simulates the effects of the
casting process under microstructure of thin slabs was recently developted in the College of
Mechanical Engineering- UNICAMP- Materials Engineering Department. This equipment
allows the simulation of the solidification stage of the continuous casting using a copper walls
mold cooled by water. In this paper will be presented the results obtained with the
termomechanical treatment on four microalloyed steel thin slabs (0,07%C, 0,07%V,
0,02%Nb), melted in an induction furnace without controlling of atmosphere and solidified in
the Simulator. These slabs (41mm thickness) were cooled and after that re-heated and rolled
in two conditions of finishment temperature (1000 and 900ºC). Only the yield strength was
meaningfully affected with the reduction in the finishment rolling temperature, raising its
valor from 400 MPa to 420 MPa. It will be estimated the contributions in raising the strength
by grain refinement, solid solution and precipitation strengthening.

molde do simulador.

tipo K respectivamente.
