ALLITERATION
• the occurrence of the same letter or sound
at the beginning of adjacent or closely conn
ected words.
Examples:
A good cook could cook as much cookies as a
good cook who could cook cookies.

ASSONANCE
• The repetition of a vowel sound or diphthong in non-rhymi
ng words. To qualify assonance, the words must be close e
nough for the repetition of the sound to be noticeable.

Example:
Penitence, reticence
It’s hot and it’s monotonous.
Fleet feet sweep by sleeping geese.

CONSONANCE
• The recurrence of similar sounds, especially consonan
ts, in close proximity.

Example:
• Mike likes his new bike.
• Toss the glass boss
