GROUTING

What is grouting ?
 It is a process of permeating / injecting grout
material in liquid form in to the voids and on
solidification results in densification by
 Void filling
 cementing
Aspects of grouting
 Permeation grouting
 Displacement grouting
 Hydro-fracture
Requirements of a good grout
material
 Viscous enough to get pumped
 Should possess adequate strength to sustain the
pumping pressure
 Should permeate in to the voids
 Set quickly and gain strength
 Must serve the function effectively
 Must not cause adverse effect to the soil mass
 Should be durable
Classification of grout materials
 Suspension grouts
 Multiphase medium
 Mixture and hence seperable
 Eg. Soil grout, cement , lime grouts etc.
 Solution grouts
 Single phase grouts
 The additives undergoes chemical reaction and gives rise
to a new element
 Eg. Chemical grouts
Groutability ratio
Classification of grouts is done by groutability ratio (GR)

GR = D15 of formation / D 85 of the grout material

GR ≤ 20 Suspension grouts

GR > 20 Solution grouts
