VOCABULARY

Read the text and fill in the blanks with the correct option from the
box. There are two words you DON’T need to use.

Poli, our university, received a group of 12 international students last

semester and Poli students had the opportunity to exchange a lot of
ideas with them and to compare our culture with different cultures. At
gastronomy, for example, Europeans and Chinese are very good, and

they cook
very well. They prepare delicious

dishes
for lunch and dinner. And French girls usually eat

very healthy
food. They prefer salads, fruit and low-fat

products.

We discovered that some of the Latinamerican male students are good

athletes
. They enjoy going to the gym, riding

bicycle
 and playing soccer. Sports and

exercise
 are important in their lives.

International students don’t worry about money very much. In contrast,

Colombians try to save

 money, and bargain or negotiate

prices all the time. In Spanish we call it “regatear”.

And talking about personality, Colombians and Latinamericans are

happy and joyful people. We celebrate everything. Europeans are
different from us. They are usually very serious and sometimes we

think they are angry

because they don’t smile. They can

help people with location and give directions in their cities, if we need
that. But we prefer to use Waze or Google Maps. It’s

to talk to serious people. 😊

GRAMMAR - EXERCISE I

Read what Andy Piscola says about sports and a nice life and
choose the correct option in each case. Use capital letters if
necessary.

This is what Andy Piscola, a Sport and Exercise Psychologyst from

Brisbane says about sports, healthy eating and healthy mind:

If you want to be happy in your life you need to do what you love, eat

healthy and do [ Seleccionar ]

exercise. Everything is

possible.

Eating healthy is not eating only fruit and vegetables. It is having a

balanced diet. There are [ Seleccionar ]

delicious

products you can include in a nice meal, but everything has to be

moderated: some
meat or fish (protein), [ Seleccionar ]

potatoes, some salad, a glass of wine, and a

[ Seleccionar ]
dessert! [ Seleccionar ]

sugar is not bad for your health and it can make you
[ Seleccionar ]
person in the world! I also suggest that

you cook at home. It is [ Seleccionar ]

going to a

restaurant and you can use the ingredients you want. However, it is not
[ Seleccionar ]
as having a chef in a restaurant.

Exercise is also very important. Some people think they have to do

[ Seleccionar ]
exercise every day and that is not true.

20 minutes of exercise a day is a good quantity. When you are

[ Seleccionar ]
active and

[ Seleccionar ]
trained, you can do a few minutes

more. You can start by doing exercise at home, and then you can go to

the gym or to a park [ Seleccionar ]

your house.

Hydration is also very important. So, drink

[ Seleccionar ]
water while you exercise, specially if

you live in a [ Seleccionar ]

place or if it is a hot and

dried season of the year.

Switzerland, so he went to live in

English with his aunt. When he was
twelve, he went to Eton, a famous
private school, but he didn’t like it
there. He left after only one year and
went to Fettes, his father’s old school.
James wasn’t a good student and he
didn’t study very much, but he was
very good at sports.

He left school in 1941 and

worked as a secret agent for
the British nave in World War 2.
After the war James Bond
stayed in the British Secret
Service, but he didn’t get his
famous “licence to kill” number
(007, of course) until 1950. He
married Teresa di Vicenzo on
New Year’s Day 1962, but they
weren’t married for long -his
wife died on their wedding
night. And for the rest of James
Bond’s life… well, watch the
movies!

Extreme sports involve some

degree of danger, and lots of
excitement. Many people
choose these alternative sports
over traditional options like
soccer or tennis.
