Corn Cob

There are many agricultural residues, including maize cob, rice husks, coffee, peanuts,
coconut, and castor oil plants that have the potential for use in making particle boards.
Due to its high-volume productivity, maize cob is the worthiest of use among all the
listed residues, with maize being ranked third among the most widely cultivated cereals
worldwide, after wheat and rice.

According to Buranello (2009), the worldwide production of maize is about 800 million
tons, so the waste material provided by this crop needs to be allocated for proper use.

Based on Rowell, Han (2000),

crop residues need to be recycled, and the directing of such waste material to the
production of particleboard panels is a possible alternative, provided
that particleboard panels can normally be manufactured from any lignocellulosic
material capable of providing high mechanical strength and
pre-established specific weight.
