Acknowledgment of Country
We respect the cultural relationships Kaurna people
have with their country and acknowledge them as
the traditional owners and occupants of the
Adelaide Plains. We understand the Kaurna people
have been living here for generations and we
understand that they have a special connection to
their land. We appreciate the Kaurna people
sharing their land with everybody.

How does culture influence you/your identity?
What is culture?

You may have heard the word culture before, but do you know what it actually
means? Think about what makes you and your family special. What language do
you speak? What traditions and beliefs do you have? Do you enjoy special foods
and wear clothing to represent your family or history?
The culture of a group of people is the traditions and beliefs that they practice in
their daily lives. The fact that there are different cultures found throughout the
globe is what makes our world so wonderful!
In this task you can focus on your own culture/s, family culture/s or a culture you
are interested in!
Workshop goals:
Your artworks should - celebrate a chosen
culture or cultures, reflect on your identity or
family heritage connections!

(For example, I love Mexican culture, but I

was born in England and now live in South
Australia - 3 cultures to choose from - and
you may have more!)

You can choose several cultures to explore

in one artwork - or do several artworks
exploring each culture you’ve chosen!
Superhero/character design
Symbols of chosen culture/s incorporated in a portrait
Spirit animal/ totems - influenced by indigenous culture
Other ideas other than people/faces
Pop Culture
What are all your friends talking about
right now? A certain television program? A
type of sneakers that your friends all are
wearing? All these things are part of pop
culture. Short for 'popular culture,' pop
culture includes everything that regular
people are talking about and are
interested in.

Pop culture includes the attitudes,

movies, books, art, sport and music of
everyday people, usually younger people.
Remember these ideas are just what you can do, not what you
have to do!

You can now start brainstorming your ideas, Talking with

friends and teachers, asking us questions and creating
your drafts!

WHat questions do you have for us before we start the Next steps?
