Appendicitis

Inflammation of the appendix

Causes
1: foreign body : Food or bacteria

2: faeces ( stool )

Signs and symptoms

1: abdominal pain

2: fever

3: Vomiting and nausea

4: Diarrhea or constipation

5: Anorexia

6: Sweating due to fever

physical examination
1: Rovsing : When you press on the lower left abdomen, the patient
feels severe pain in the lower left abdomen on the right

‫عندما تضغط على اسفل يسار البطن يشعر المريض بألم شديد في جزء البطن السفلي على‬
‫اليمين‬

2: psoas : is the patient lie on his or her left side while the right thigh is
flexed backward. Pain may indicate an inflamed appendix overlying the
psoas muscle.

3: Obturator: Patient lies supine with right thigh flexed then caught
right ankle with right hand Left hand rotates right hip by :

Pull right knee laterally (hip external rotation)

Pull right knee medially (hip internal rotation)

Left obturator/pelvis examined in similar fashion .

‫يستلقي المريض مستلقيا مع ثني الفخذ األيمن ثم تمسك الكاحل األيمن باليد اليمنى يدور اليد‬
:‫اليسرى الورك األيمن بواسطة‬

)‫شد الركبة اليمنى بشكل جانبي (الدوران الخارجي للورك‬

)‫شد الركبة اليمنى إنسيا (الدوران الداخلي للورك‬

‫ الحوض بطريقة مماثلة‬/ ‫فحص السدادة اليسرى‬

4: Direct pressure on the appendix : When you apply gentle pressure to

the painful region , then suddenly remove this pressure.

‫عندما نضغط بلطف على المنطقة المؤلمة ثم نرفع الضغط بشكل مفاجئ‬

5: Dunphy : increased abdominal pain with coughing.

‫زيادة آالم البطن مع السعال‬

Management and Treatment

Most people with appendicitis need operation called

Appendectomy.
Before and after operation , you receive intravenous (IV) antibiotics to
treat infection.
