1. Introduction

The ST410 (i.e: the “Box Tracker”) is a tracking “device” to recover expensive merchandises which are packed
mainly with cartoon boxes and might be stolen while those merchandises are being transported from the packing
site to the destination(s).

The device (‘ST410’) transmits GSM information to its server and transmits its device ID (Identification number) via
RF (radio frequency) signal (433.0 up to 434.9 MHz – steps of 100kHz) to its sniffer (i.e. “ST480”) so that its
sniffer(s) can find its location after analyzing strength of the RF signal and recognizing the shooting location of the
RF signal.

2. Main Characteristics

The device (‘ST410’) has main characteristics as described in the following table:
Items Function Description Remarks
Switch Turn On or Off the power.
ST420 does not have Switch. Instead it can be turned ON
or OFF using magnet. (configurable)
GSM - Support AT Commands Refer to
- Possible to recognize GSM information (Cell ID, etc. ) MTK AT commands
GPRS - TCP Protocol
- Report GSM information to the server
GPS - Media Tek
RF - RF Configuration
Base Frequency :
433.0 up to 434.9 MHz for emergency/position.
Frequency for commands is automatically selected.
Modulation : OOK
- Possible to Turn On/Off RF by RF command, GPRS
command, Opening box, jamming ON.
- Possible to Turn Off RF by RF command, GPRS
command and jamming OFF.
- Transmit 9-digits of serial number.
LED Indicates status of GSM connection and battery charging See item 7
Power Switch Turn On/Off the main power supply.(configurable)
Power Saving Turn off GSM power. Wake-up by RTC
MCU operates in Low Power mode
Charging - Recognize Charger Connection / Disconnection
- Recognize Battery Connection / Disconnection
- Check Battery Error
- MTK Li-ion Charging Algorithm
- While charging, GPRS does not work.

3. Operating Modes

3-1. Installation Mode

- In “Installation Mode’, the device keeps being turned on.

- Parameters can be changed using SyncTrak, via GPRS or via SMS.

- RF Tx/Rx does not work in installation mode.

- When setting cable is unplugged after completing parameter-setting, the device changed to Normal Mode: GSM
is turned off and RF is ready to receive

3-2. Normal Mode

- In ‘Normal Mode’, the device is turned on.

- Wakeup and Sleep are repeatedly done if ‘T3’ is greater than 3 minutes.

- In the mode of ‘Wake-up’, device is waken up at an interval of ‘T3’ and sends ‘Status Report’ as soon as possible
(See Timing Parameters.).

- Several seconds later after reporting ‘Status Report’ is completed, the device starts getting into the mode of
‘Sleep’. You can change this timeout by T8 field in Timing Parameters.

- If GPS is not fixed for more than predefined time, the device sends ‘Status Report’ without fixed position.
- If GPRS connection fails for more than 5 minutes, the device starts getting into the mode of ‘Sleep’
- If GPRS Network is not available during 2 minutes, the device goes to the mode of ‘Sleep’

- Device does not ‘Sleep’ when the charger or setting cable is connected.

3-3. Emergency Mode

- This mode is operational in the cases below.

; When command is received by GPRS.
; When command is received from RF transmitter
; When the carton pack is opened (only when ‘CB_OPEN_EMG’ in New Parameters is set to ‘Emergency’)
; When jamming is detected (only when ‘JAM_DET’ in New Parameter is set to ‘Emergency’).

- Device reports GSM information to the server.

When ‘T6’ is greater than 3 minutes, device starts getting into the mode of ‘Sleep’ pre-defined seconds (T8) after
reporting ‘Emergency Report’ is completed and waken up at an interval of ‘T6’.

- Device transmits RF signal periodically (T4).

; RF transmission is sent T5 times (with data) + two time (without data)

The latest mode is saved in the memory and recovered when the device reboots.
After you connect charger or setting cable, it is changed to Installation Mode.

4. How to set various parameters to configure device

Before a device starts being operated, its parameters should be set first. This chapter shows how the string is sent
to the device.

4-1. Networking Parameters

The following table shows how and what parameters are required to be set so that the device can be connected
with network. As shown in the bottom part of this table, an ‘<Example>’ of ‘[command]’ and ‘[response]’are made in
string respectively when the configuration for the networking is completed.
Field Marks Value Meaning
HDR “ST410NTW” Command type of Header
DEV_ID 9 char Device ID
VER 02 Protocol Version
AUTH ‘0’ / ‘1’ / ‘A’ GPRS authentication

0 : PAP (‘NO’ in SyncTrack)

1 : CHAP (‘YES’ in SyncTrack)
A : Automatic GPRS set.

In this case, parameters for APN, USER_ID and

USER_PWD field should remain empty.
APN String Access Point Name
USER_ID String ID for GPRS Access
USER_PWD String Password for GPRS Access
SERVER_IP String Server IP Address
SERVER_PORT String Server Port
B_SERVER_IP String IP Address of Backup Server
B_SERVER_PORT String Port of Backup Server
SMS_NO String Phone number that will receive the SMS report sent
by the device.

This can be used for backup in the area where GPRS

condition is not good. Or, it can be used as a main
report receiver when IP and Port are unavailable. It
should remain empty if not used.
PIN_NO String PIN Number to release PIN lock if it is enabled

<Note>
** If network does not require User ID and Password, these fields should remain empty.

** In Normal Mode, the device starts getting into the mode of ‘Sleep’ if GPRS connection is failed to
more than 3 minutes. So switching to backup server when main server is not available is impossible in
Normal Mode

** Automatic Setting for GPRS Network

If you set the device to ‘Automatic GPRS Set’, the device will automatically set the parameters for
GPRS with the data available on the inserted SIM card.
For instance, if Airtel SIM is inserted, the device will set ‘AUTH’ to ‘0’, ‘APN’ to ‘airtelgprs.com’,
‘USER_ID and USER_PWD’ to empty respectively.
And then, the device reports response string after adding real GPRS parameters, if ‘Automatic GPRS
Set’ is selected.
