MARKING GUIDE
Question One

(a) 16 ÷ (2 + 6) + 18[3 + (4 x 6) − 21] given

=16 ÷ 8 + 18[3 + 24 − 21]
=16 ÷ 8 + 18[3 + 3] (2 Marks)
16
= 8 + 18 × 6 (2Marks)
= 2 + 108 (2Marks)
= 110 (4Marks)
1 2 1 3 1
(b) From BODMAS − (5 + 4) ÷ (8 x 3)
3

1 2 1 3 1
= −( + )÷( x ) Given
3 5 4 8 3
1 8+5 1
= 3 − ( 20 ) ÷ (8) opening the brackets (1Mark)
1 13 1
= 3 − 20 ÷ 8 Division (D) (1Mark)
1 13 8
= − 20 × 1 (1Mark)
3
1 13 2
= − ×1 (1Mark)
3 5
1 26 5−78
= − = (2Marks)
3 5 15
−73

15
13
= −4 15 (1Mark)

3
(c) Consider the summarized table below;
Types of Number of Cost per each Total Cost
News paper Copies Tshs Tshs
Daily News 240 300 72000
Uhuru 198 200 39600
Sports 6 500 3000
( 2Marks) (2Marks)
114,600 (2Marks)
Then, Richard will collect a Total Amount of Tshs 114600 on selling 444 copies
(1Marks)
Question Two
(a) sum of the LCM and GCF of 35, 420, and 245

2 35 420 425
2 35 210 245
3 35 105 245
5 35 35 245
7 7 7 49
7 1 1 7
1 1 1
(4 Marks)
The L.C.M is 2 × 2 × 3 × 5 × 7 × 7 = 2940 and GCF = 7 × 5 = 35 (2 Marks)
The sum of LCM and G.C.F is 2940 + 35 = 2975 (2 Marks)
(b) 3: 2 given
Find the sum 3 + 2 = 5 (2Marks)
Then
3
= 5 × 800kg = 480kg (2Marks)
2
= 5 × 800kg = 320kg (2 Marks)
Thus , the first family will receive 480kg of Rice
and second family will receive 320kg of Rice (4 Marks)

(c) Given the amount , Shs1520, 000

20
x shs 1520,000 = shs 152000 × 20 (2Marks)
100
shs 304000 (3Marks)
Total amount tradesman will have shs1520,000 + shs304000 = shs 1824000
(2Marks)

4
Question Three
(a) 0.2x + 1.6y − 1.2x + 2.4y
= −1.2x + 0.2x + 2.4y + 1.6y (2Marks)
= −x + 4y (3Marks)
(b) 4(2r − 3) − 2(r − 4) = 3(r − 3) − 1
8r − 12 − 2r + 8 = 3r − 9 − 1 (2 Marks)
6r − 4 = 3r − 10 simplification (2 Marks)
6r − 3r = −10 + 4 Collecting like terms (2Marks)
3r = −6 (1Marks)
−6
r = 3 = −2 (2Marks)
(c) (i) from z ∝ p (1Mark)
Then removing constant proportionality
z = kp (1Mark)
for z = 40 and p = 15
40 = 15k ( 1Mark)
40
k = 15 (1Mark)
40 p
Thus, the equation will be z = (2 Marks)
15
(ii) The value of p for z = 100
40 p
z = 15
40 p
100 = (2 Marks)
15
100 × 15 = 40p (1 Mark)

15 00
p= = 37.5 (2Marks)
40
Thus the value of p = 37.5 when z = 100

5
Question Four
(a) Given List price , L = Tshs 410,000, r1 = 0.4, r2 = 0.1 and r3 = 0.05
(i) Net Price = L[(𝟏 − 𝐫𝟏) (𝟏 − 𝐫𝟏) (𝟏 − 𝐫𝟏) . . . (𝟏 − 𝐫𝐧)] (2 Marks)
= Tshs410,000 [(𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟒) (𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟏) (𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟎𝟓) ] (2Marks)
= Tshs410,000 [(𝟎. 𝟔) (𝟎. 𝟗) (𝟎. 𝟗𝟓) ] ( 2Marks)
= Tshs410,000 x 0.513
= Tshs 210,330 (4 Marks)
(ii) Amount Discount = List price − Net price (1 Marks)
= Tshs 410,000 − Tshs 210,330 (2 Marks)
= Tshs 199, 670 (2Marks)
(iii) Single equivalent rate of discount = 1 − (1 − r1 )(1 − r2 )(1 − r3 )
= 1 − [(𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟒) (𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟏) (𝟏 − 𝟎. 𝟎𝟓)]
= 1 − [(𝟎. 𝟔) (𝟎. 𝟗) (𝟎. 𝟗𝟓) ] (2Marks)
= 1 −0.513 (2Marks)
= 0.487 = 48.7% (1Marks)
(b) From 1Doller = Tshs2000 (2Marks)
? = Tshs750,000
1doller ×Tshs 750,000
= (2Marks)
Tshs 2000

Thus , Tshs750,000 = 375 dollers (1Marks)

Question Five
(a) Let M be the money denoted by B (2Marks)
A B C
125M M 80M
100
100
Since A + B + C = 61,000 (2Marks)
125M 80M
+M+ = 61,000 (2Marks)
100 100

1.25M + M + 0.8M = 61,000 (2Marks)

3.05M 61,000
= M = 20,000 (2Marks)
3.05 3.05
80 80
The amount invested by C = 100 × M = 100 × 20,000 (2Marks)

Thus, C will invest = Tshs 16,000 (1Marks)

6
(b) Given P = Tshs 80,000 , R = 9% and Time, T = 24 Months
From
I = P × R% × T (2 Marks)
24
= Tshs 80,000 × 9% × 12 (2 Marks)
9 24
= Tshs 80,000 × 100 × 12 on simplifying
Tshs 800x18 = 14400 (2Marks)
A=P+I
A = Tshs 80,000 + Tshs 14400 (2 Marks)
Ben will repay a Total amount of Tshs 94, 400 (4Marks)
