A guide to understanding Lesson Plans

The following checklist outlines some features of quality lessons.

 The learning objectives of the lessons are clearly communicated to the students

 Resources and requirements are identified

 Outcomes and other syllabus links are identified

 Resources and teaching strategies support a range of learners  Diagnostic and/or formative
strategies are included

 Teacher-led and student-directed learning activities are included

 Learning activities vary in length/duration

 The learning activities are likely to be suitable for a variety of learners

 The learning activities are aligned with the syllabus outcomes and lesson objectives 
Literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills are scaffolded in the lessons

 Resources are original and of a professional standard

 Appropriate “wrap up” or concluding activities are evident in each lesson

 There are clear connections between the lessons in the sequence

 Principles of Quality Teaching are evident.
