‘The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON KIA OA2
Dear Prime Minister,
As MP-elect for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, | write in respect of your actions
yesterday on the National Dey for Truth and Reconciliation.
Despite being in the province and only a short distance away from the former
Kamicops indian Residential School, you chose this important day to vacation without
any explanation to Canadians or the Tkemlips te Seanépemc. Additionally, you did
not respond to two formal invitations from the Tkemiips te Seawépemc to participate
in yesterday's ceremony. Like many Canadians, | am deeply disappointed.
‘Sine the discovery of 215 children’s graves atthe former Kamicops indian Residential
‘School in May 2021, you have not visited the grave sites despite being Prime Minister
and affirming that roconcilistion isa priority.
Canadians look to the Prime Minister for leadership in these situations. We cannot
change the mistakes made over the past months, which | implore you to acknowledge,
but | am calling on you to do the right thing by visiting the Temlips te Seawépeme
grave sites in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
Frank Caputo
Member of Parliament Elect, Kamioops—Thompson—Cariboo
