Subject: Ride Industrial Band Crawler

The following is a summary product review of the Industrial Band Crawler, completed after
visual inspection of the product received this week.

Broken Cable
Wheels are discolored which indicates a lot heat was applied to them due to the torch cutting tip
being too close to the wheel . Heat applied to the wheel needle bearing caused the bearing to
cease to operate shearing the flexible drive cable.
Also, the wheel groove has very small metal pellets from the flame cutting process in it, which is
another indication the wheels were too close to the cutting process. Torch tip should be at a
distance of about 3 1/2" away from the wheel whether cutting a forward, or backward bevel with
the torch.

Latch
Rivets in the latch assembly were replaced with hex head cap screws. This is a sign that the
wheels were over tensioned against the edge of the band. I suspect the over tensioning of the
wheels may have been caused by one of the following reasons.
a. Trying to apply enough force to overcome the metal pellets in the wheel groove.
b. Heat applied to the wheel needle bearing in the crawler leg is causing the bearing to
to cease to operate.
c. Insufficient slack in the oxygen and fuel hose so the machine causing the machine to
try to over come the friction caused by the dragging of the hose around the pipe. The hose
should never be dragged around the pipe as this may cause the machine to become
disengaged from the band causing injury to the operator or observers.
