Hey what’s up?

Saurabh Bhatnagar this side & I am super excited sharing this case
study with you.

That’s because this ad campaign I ran for my first ever client & I was
able to deliver massive results to them.

I am writing this case study in August 2019, while I ran this campaign
in the year 2016.

So because of all of my added experience now, I will be able to add


more “perspective” into this case study which I was not really aware
of that time.

Let me pull up the ad account screenshot first:

A total of ~15K was spent & a revenue of around $150K was


generated.

On our best days, we were generating a sale for just $0.6 (in the
Indian market).

So what all things made the campaign successful?

Now when I look at it, I see the biggest reason for my ads success
was crazy amount of split testing.

Plus, tons of other usual factors like targeting, ad copy, creative, etc.

We will discuss them later in a few moments.

What could I have done better?

2.) Funnels

These are the 2 HUGE sources of revenue in my company at this


moment.

But back then I had no experience or knowledge about it.

And I was only relying upon the sales via Facebook™ ads.

Today I know, I have missed out on at least 2X Extra Revenue


because of not doing these 2 things.

Success Reason #1 – No-Brainer Offer

Looking at the website, I can see the “product quality versus price”
was a complete No-Brainer.

Anytime you are making a product, just make sure how you can work
upon in making it a No-Brainer Offer.

In terms of value offered versus the price.

As you can see we created a massive library of ads.

And yet, I have not even pulled out 10% of the screenshots here.

We had created a HUGE library of ad designs to test out every single


ad design idea we could.

There were folders upon folders kept inside my drive.

All of them fully segregated w.r.t the ad size & product, etc.

Hope I am able to convey my idea by now.

Crazy Split Testing is a must.

At one time, I had 500 Ad Sets running at one go, and I was closely
monitoring them.

Surely, it took a huge amount of efforts initially.

But later, I had complete idea of what was working for me & what
not.

And thus, I was able to put my ads on complete automation mode


where by just few minutes of watch daily, I was in complete control
& profits 

Success Reason #3 – Not falling in love with my product. Instead


was only focussed on Profits.

I talk to a lot of marketers who are concerned about their website not
doing well.

Not able to sell huge.

However, they do have 1-2 winning products.

But they are concerned about why the other products are not doing
well.

Once I was able to find my winning products, which in summers was


the “Black Henley” & in winters was “Navy Sweatshirt” & a polo
combo, I 100% stuck to those products only.

Though our website had around 500 products, but I was advertising
only for those 2 products since they were selling more than the others.

 To add perspective to it, the fact that so many other products


were present helped in 2 ways:

1.) It created authority of the site

Which is important.

However, if the end customer is convinced about a product,


they will buy it for sure.

But an added authority anyhow helps.

2.) It increased the average order value per sale.

So I noticed when my customer was ready to buy my “no-


brainer” black Henley, and when they were in the “buying
mode”, they didn’t hesitate in adding more products to their
cart.

This on an average helped in increasing the average order


value per sale.

This particular ad creative “type” outperformed every other creative.

I picked the design idea from a Chinese website.

Now when I see it, I can understand the USP of this particular ad
creative is showing the product from every angle possible.

I feel that this helps the user in making their buying decision process
easier.

My viewers were actually able to feel the product and were able to see
it from all the angles.

Just like they do when they go to physical stores.

They want to see the product from every single angle.

You see, that online marketing is not a lot different than offline
marketing.

Success Reason #5 – Simple ad copy covering the MAIN


BENEFITS for the customer.

This is a debatable option.

Since I am also a practitioner of long copies.

But it totally depends on the product type.

Over here I didn’t have a lot to explain since my product/need was


self explanatory.

I only focussed on the MAIN BENEFITS to be visible inside my


ad copy.

The carousel ad gave me the opportunity of showing more


product designs at one go.

However, I know the Black Henley one was the one which
was outperforming others.

But you never know, who might like what. So carousel ad


helps that way as well 

Success Reason #6 – Simple Set Up.

Let me now walk you through my ad-set set-up.

Important step – Targeting.

Targeting barring some methods is mostly logical.

If you know your end customer, you will always know your targeting.

Of course, there are methods to break down targeting further.

But mostly via logic you can catch hold of your potential customers.

In this case, the product was something which everyone needed.

So I started with an “All-India” targeting.

and simply targeted people who were interested in “Online


Shopping”.

However, later after looking at my stats from the backroom, I realised


my most profitable age group was 18-24 & people living in metro
cities.

So diving deep into my stats helped our conversions.

A good takeaway for you 

Other Points

Ad Objective – No points in guessing. It was “Purchase”.

Most Profitable Ad Placement – Mobile News Feed.

Call to Action – Shop Now.

P.S – For majority of my other ads, I prefer “Learn More” CTA. For
eCom of course “Shop Now” is the best.

Success Reason #7 – Crazy Retargeting.

Something that I didn’t implement from Day 1 back then.

A mistake that one simply can’t afford now.

Retargeting brings crazy sales.

Here “Henley not success 3” means the people who came to the
Henley page in the last 3 days but did not purchase.

Similarly, 5,10, etc. they mean the same.

It helps you differ your messaging to different people.

So people who are just 3 days old, you can simply give them a
reminder about the sale.

However, as they are into the 10-15 days’ mark, showing them a
coupon is helpful.

To Summarise

This Ad campaign became successful because of the perfect


combination of the Quality Offer + Ad Idea + Ad type + Ad Image +
Ad Copy + Call to Action + Retargeting.
