HOW THE PUMPS OPERATE ROTATING

INLET INLET CHECKBALL
WOBBLE PLATE OUTLET 1
The checkball pump design uses
two check valves in each piston
pumping chamber to direct flow
from the inlet side of the pump to
the pump outlet port.
DRIVE
SHAFT
Wobble Plate Rotates with Shaft SUCTION

During operation, a fixed angle OUTLET

wobble plate rotates with the CHECKBALL
drive shaft. The angled surface
of the wobble plate imparts a
reciprocating motion to the pistons DISCHARGE

which move in and out of the bores SPLIT-FLOW

COVER
in the stationary barrel. DESIGN
During its suction stroke, each
piston is filled through its inlet
check valve. Fluid is drawn by
vacuum into the piston pumping
chamber in the barrel. STATIONARY PISTON BARREL OUTLET 2

Check Valves Control Fluid

During compression, the inlet check across the check valve, out of the Multiple Outlet Pumps
valve closes and pressure in the pumping chamber. Piston outputs In Split-Flow ® models, the piston
pumping chamber rises until it exceeds are combined in the pump barrel outputs can be isolated, or grouped
load pressure at the outlet port. or cover, and then discharged from together in various combinations,
The outlet checkball then lifts the pump outlet providing smooth supplying flows to multiple function
off its seat and fluid is pumped flow to the system. circuits without flow dividers.

HYDRAULIC VARIABLE PUMPS

EFFICIENT VARIABLE DELIVERY

Checkball pump delivery is controlled by
variable inlet ports in each piston pumping
chamber. In these hydraulic variable models,
output is regulated by a variable low-pressure
control signal, supplied to a control port in
the pump cover.
Fluid not needed to meet system requirements
returns to tank at low pressure, typically 100
psi (7 bar). The result is efficient pump control,
providing infinitely variable flow to the system.
Pump Volume Controls
Pump volume controls for PV6000 Series
pumps, including a remote pressure
compensator, improve the control and
design flexibility of hydraulic circuits.
Typical Motor Circuit
A typical open loop circuit uses a combination from the “CP” port decreases, which is sensed directional valve controlling the motor. This

DYNEX
High Pressure Hydraulics
GENERAL INFORMATION

Hydraulic Products
Used With Confidence
Throughout the World

Dynex manufactures hydraulic components and systems which operate under

difficult conditions including high pressure, contamination, dirty environments,
fluids with low lubricity, extreme temperature variations and long duty cycles.
High flow piston pumps and control valves operate with extended life at
pressures from 6000 to 20 000 psi (420 to 1380 bar).
The company’s history dates to 1884. The two divisions, Dynex and Rivett, were
incorporated as Dynex/Rivett Inc. in 1977. Today, customers use high-performance
Dynex products for stronger, more efficient and reliable designs — for machines
that can be used with confidence around the world.
We are committed to responding to customers’ special requirements. Our flexible
product design and manufacturing can shorten new-product development time,
as well as support regular production needs.

FIGURE 1: The mechanical position feedback design consists

of a feedback rod (attached to the control piston) and a pilot
sleeve which rides on a feedback cam in the rod. A hole in the PILOT SPOOL
sleeve, in conjunction with the land on the spool, forms a PILOT SLEEVE
control orifice. When no flow is required this orifice is closed.
CONTROL ORIFICE CLOSED
FIGURE 2: In response to the electrical signal, the force motor
armature retracts. The pilot spool, held in contact with the
armature, moves inside the sleeve directing pilot flow to the
control piston through the now open orifice. Movement of the
piston changes the cradle angle and brings the pump on-stroke.
FIGURE 3: The feedback rod moves with the control piston.
When the cradle has reached its proper angle, movement of PILOT FLOW
the feedback cam causes the sleeve to shift in relation to the
spool. This closes the orifice and effectively nulls the pilot FEEDBACK ROD
stage. The control piston and the cradle remain in this position
as long as the electrical signal is unchanged.
