Activity 1.2
You are done creating your graph and chart on the population growth in the
Philippines. Now, answer the following questions;
1. How is the growth of population in the Philippines at present?

The growth of Philippine Population at present is more than twelve times

larger than the population during the century. From 9.41 million in 1920, the
estimated population of the Philippines as of September 2021 is 111.5 million,
and we’re still counting. It is not just neutrally or steadily growing—the population
of the country is dramatically increasing. For some reason, we’re exponentially
growing in number.

2. What is the cause of population growth in the Philippines?

I would like to point 3 main causes of population growth in the Philippines:

First is the lack of family planning. Even though the fertility rate is declining
tolerably, from 3.158 per 1,000 women last 2010, and 2.806 per 1,000 women
last 2020, the fertility rate of women in 2021 is 2.540 per 1,000 women, there is
0.266 decline from last year, and it was also predicted to decline in the coming
years. While DOH is aggressively campaigning the need to use contraceptive
techniques, we cannot get rid of the fact that some would still ignore and oppose
it.
Another thing is the culture and mindset itself. Traditionally, we would
often see families, especially in rural areas, having bigger families with parents
giving birth to more children. Elders once believed that it’s nice to have more
children because they would have more chances on having a successful child
that would save them from poverty. Some of them wanted to have more children
so they will take care of them when they get old. Many still carry on with this
mindset up to this day.
Lastly is the improved health care. Prevention from diseases and
Immunization had let us live longer and healthier. Because of these, polio virus
which was very harmful is now almost zero, and other cases of deadly diseases
acquired from poor sanitation and other preventable factors are reduced.

3. How can we prevent population growth in the Philippines?

We cannot prevent population growth because humans like to live up to

their purpose of reproduction, and sexual intercourse is inevitable. Unless we
resort to unethical measures like strict prohibition of procreation, putting a
chastity belt around every Filipino, or discarding the elders, maintaining a flat

graph would be impossible so far. But the good thing is, we can control,
minimize or slow it down, somehow.
The most realistic thing to do is continuous health education and
campaign about family planning and use of contraceptives. Philippines is a
democratic country and we are ought to exercise freedom, so educating,
information dissemination, and encouraging everyone to exercise control in
giving birth would be very appreciated to control the booming growth in
population.

4. Is the Philippines population growing?

Yes, the Philippine Population is growing continuously.

5. Is the Philippines overpopulated 2021?

Yes. We are overpopulated as of 2021.
