TASK DESCRIPTION
You are a project manager of a software development company. Your company is engaged in a
software service for Hanoi University, to develop a Library Management System for the
lecturers/staffs and students to use. As a project manager, you are required to create a Scope
Document which has following contents:
a. Scope statement (project descriptions)
b. Deliverables
c. WBS (Work Breakdown Structure)
d. Controlling the scope

Project: Develop Library Management System for Hanoi University
Development Company: Rainy Company
Client: Hanoi University
I. Scope statements
A service agreement was established between Rainy Development Company (as the
service provider) and Hanoi University (as the client) in September 2021.
Both service provider and client aim to develop and deliver a software system, a
Library Management System to be deployed for use as an online library service of
Hanoi University. The system included 3 modules:
1. Sub-system 1: Building a Central Database for the Library. A Central Database
is stored at a single location such as a main frame computer.
2. Sub-system 2: Develop a Search and Reserve service for all university students
and lecturers/staffs. This service enables to search books by title, author,
subject category as well by the publication date so they can check-out and
reserve any books.
3. Sub-system 3: Develop a Book Management sub-system, each book will have a
unique identification number and other details including a rack number which
will help to physically locate the book.
A. Overall objectives
- O1: a software built to handle the primary housekeeping functions of a library
- O2: manage asset collections as well as relationships with their members
- O3: keep track of the books and their checkouts, as well as members’
subscriptions and profiles
- O4: maintaining the database for entering new books and recording books that
have been borrowed with their respective due dates.

2. Scope review and baseline: includes scope statement, WBS and WBS dictionary
3. Scope change: an official decision made by the project manager and the client to
change a feature, to expand or reduce its functionality
