Auditory

The first learning styles that was particular to myself was auditory learning. A learner

who is auditory learns easier in a setting focused on hearing rather than reading. It is easier for a

student to comprehend a subject when they listen to what the teacher has to said. Auditory

learning styles can be incorporated into the classroom throughout things like lectures,

discussions, and reading thins out loud. An auditory learning has strengths in the areas of

listening, which can be an advantage in an ELL classroom. Ell classrooms hone in on auditory

skills to help aid in a student learning English. They spend most of their day listening to the

English language and trying to gain an understanding of what is being spoken to them. To truly

learn the language they must be able to hear how the language is spoken and the different dialect

that comes along with it. To use auditory learning effective in a an ELL classroom I would be

sure to always start the day off with a conversation in English to start getting them used to the

casual language.

Applied

The second learning style that was subjective to myself was the applied learning style. An

applied learning style focuses in on real life objects and situations. It is ideal to include real life

examples and situations that a student can relate to. An applied classroom usually allows the

classroom to have a direct application of skills that they are learning. This can concur between

hands on examples and deeper investigations into different models and theories. This can be

beneficial in ELL classrooms. A good way to promote language skills and increase vocabulary is

throughout theatrical play. This is when students are given time to act out different plays and

scenarios. Giving students different plays or examples to act out can relate back to the ideas of

theatrical play in learning language.

Verbal

The third learning style I had was verbal. Verbal learning style focuses on learning

throughout verbal and language skills. This learning style focuses on learning throughout

language through different words and reasonings. Verbal learners struggle with visualizing

things mentally and positioning things in space. It is much easier for them to learn how things

works through verbal language. In an ELL classroom, it is important for each student to have a

sense of verbal learning. It is an advantage because it allows them to become comfortable with

the language and actually listen and speak the language rather than just reading it. While reading

is important, they must be able to know how to correctly pronounce and understand the words to

have an idea of what they are reading. This can be incorporated into an ELL classroom by asking

students to read things out loud in the classroom. Whether it be a story or something like a

lesson, it is important for them to practice their verbal language.

Social

The fourth learning style that related to myself was social. The social learning style is

working directly with other students in the classroom and or the teacher themselves. Social

students are typically more outgoing, people oriented students who enjoy interactions with other

people. These interactions can be both casual or related to direct instruction. It can be as simple

as just sharing your work with a partner or as complex as having the ELL students gather in a

group and try and have them communicate with each other using the English language. This type

of learning style is important to incorporate in an ELL classroom. To actually learn the language,

students need to be actively using it. They also have to become comfortable with using it in both

a formal and informal way. An easy way to do so is by encouraging students to work together in

groups and to only communicate with each other in English. It may be less intimidating for them
to speak with other students who are also new to the language, rather than an English native

speaker like their teacher.

Pragmatic

The last learning style that I had was the pragmatic learning style. The pragmatic learning

styles focuses on following a set of directions of a guide when completing a task. Students tend

to be practical, logical, and systematic within their thought process. They enjoy having a set

group of instructions to know exactly what they are doing and how exactly to do it. The

pragmatic learner wants to know what they are learning, how to do it, and what steps they should

follow to do so. They want to know exactly what idea they are learning and how it effects them

in a real sense. Pragmatic learning has many advantages within an ELL classroom. One of which

being taught the language itself. The meaning of words and pronunciation of words are set rules

that an ELL student must learn. There is no theories to be tested on what a word is or how it is

pronounced. There is simply one right answer and the ELL student must learn this one answer.
