AREA AND CIRCUMFERENCE OF A CIRCLE

1. The radius of a circle is 3 inches. What is the area?

Solution:

A = π.r.r
= 3.14 · (3 in) · (3 in)
= 3.14 · (9 in2)
= 28.26 in2

2. The diameter of a circle is 8 centimeters. What is the area?

Solution:

d = 2.r
8 cm = 2.r
8 cm ÷ 2 = r
r = 4 cm
A = π.r.r
A = 3.14 · (4 cm) · (4 cm)
= 50.24 cm2

3. The area of a circle is 78.5 square meters. What is the radius?

Solution:

A = π.r.r
78.5 m2 = 3.14.r.r
78.5 m2 ÷ 3.14 = r .r
25 m2 = r.r
r=5m

4. The radius of a circle is 2 inches. What is the diameter?

Solution:

d = 2.r
d = 2 · (2 in)
d = 4 in

5. The diameter of a circle is 3 centimeters. What is the circumference?

Solution:

C = π.d
C = 3.14 · (3 cm)
C = 9.42 cm
6. The radius of a circle is 2 inches. What is the circumference?
Solution:

d = 2.r
d = 2 · (2 in)
d = 4 in
C = π.d
C = 3.14 · (4 in)
C = 12.56 in

7. The circumference of a circle is 15.7 centimeters. What is the diameter?

Solution:

C = π.d
15.7 cm = 3.14.d
15.7 cm ÷ 3.14 = d
d = 15.7 cm ÷ 3.14
d = 5 cm

8. Find the Area of circle with the radius of 10 feet with taken the value of π = 3.14.
Solution:

A = π.r.r
A = (3.14). (10ft). (10ft)
A = 314 sq.ft.

9. Find the area of circle with radius equal to 6.5 inch using π = 3.14
Solution:

A = π.r.r
A = (3.14 * 6.5*6.5)
A = 132.67 square inch

10. Find the area of a circle with radius as 5 cm

Solution:

A = π.r.r
A = (3.14).(5).(5)
A = 78.5398 sq cm

Area of a Parallelogram
1. Obtain the area of the parallelogram.
Solution:

Formula:
A = bh where b is the base length and h is the
corresponding height.
Replace b with 9 and h with 6.
A = (9)(6)
A = 54 ft2

2. Find the area of the parallelogram shown.

Solution:

The shaded region is a parallelogram with height 3.5

units and base 7 units.
Area of a parallelogram with base b and height h is
given by:
A = bh
Substitute 7 for b and 3.5 for h:
A = 7 3.5
Simplify.
A = 24.5
The area of the given parallelogram is, 24.5 square units.

3. Obtain the area of the parallelogram.

Solution:

Step 1
Observe the figure.
It is a parallelogram with base length 8 cm and the
corresponding height 30 mm.

Step 2
Change 8 centimeters to millimeters.
1 cm = 10 mm
So,
8 cm = 8 · 10 = 80 mm
You can also convert 30 millimeters to centimeters.

Step 3
The area of a parallelogram is, A = bh where b is the base length and h is the
corresponding height.
Replace b with 80 and h with 30.
A = (80)(30)
Step 4
Simplify. We get:
A = 2400 mm2
So, the area is 2400 mm2 or 24 cm2.

4. Find the unknown value of a parallelogram given.

Area = 228 cm2, height = 15.2 cm, base =?
Solution:

Step 1
Area of a parallelogram with base b and height h is given by:
A = bh
Substitute 228 for A and 15.2 for h:
228 = b 15.2

Step 2
To isolate b, divide both the sides by 15.2:
b = 15
So,
Base = 15 cm

5. Determine the length of the red segment in the

parallelogram shown.
Solution:

Step 1
Copy the given figure.
Label it as shown.

Step 2
Area of a parallelogram with base b and height h is given by,
A = bh
Consider CD as the base. Then, b = 50 units and h = 22 units.
So,
A = 50 22

Step 3
Simplify.
A = 1100 square units

Step 4
Now, consider AD as the base.
Then, b = 25 units. The height h is the length of the segment printed in red.
Substitute 1100 for A and 25 for b:
1100 = 25 h
Step 5
To isolate h, divide both the sides by 25.
h = 44
So, the length of the segment printed in red is 44 units.

6. Find the area of a parallelogram with a base of 12 centimeters and a height of 5

centimeters.
Solution:

A = b.h
A = (12 cm) · (5 cm)
A = 60 cm2

7. Find the area of a parallelogram with a base of 7 inches and a height of 10

inches.
Solution:

A = b.h
A = (7 in) · (10 in)
A = 70 in2
