A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO HER BODY

I learned that people has different perspectives with regards to woman’s ownership of
her body. Some say that woman has a God-given right to use her body in any ways she likes so
that neither the State nor the Catholic Church has the right to tell her what to do with her body
since they do not pay when the bills come in. On the other hand, some have opposite view
saying you cannot do everything that you wished for with your body just because you own it.
Perhaps, you don’t own it in the ownership sense of being able to use and dispose it as she
likes. Woman may use their body but with inhibitions or restrictions. A woman cannot kill
herself just because she wants to. There are limits that a woman should consider, and those
limits were imposed by society and by God. Accordingly, our body is a temple of God, therefore
woman shouldn’t do anything to harm it in any way possible. In addition, we are made in the
image of God, and that we should all try to act in that image.
I realized that people have different perspectives with this matter. But for me, I believe
that a woman is allowed to do whatever she wants with her body as long as she doesn’t harm
it. Our body is a temple of God and we are made in his image and likeness, therefore, we
shouldn’t do something to stain it or harm it. We should always put in mind that if we harm our
body, it was the same as we are harming God’s body as well. We should acknowledge the
restrictions and limitations set by the society and God in order to keep healthy, secure,
nourished, protected and not to disobey God’s law. Rules of conduct and penalties are imposed
in our society for people (esp. woman) inflicting on physical injury to the body or even
emotional injury.
From this time on, I will be more careful not to harm and respect the body of others- be
it a girl or boy. I will share to other women their various rights such as rights to equality, to
dignity, autonomy, information and bodily integrity and respect for private life and the highest
attainable standard of health, including sexual and reproductive health, without discrimination;
as well as the right to freedom from torture and cruelty. I will carry with me the knowledge that
I have learned from this reading and apply to any woman in my family or to others. I will
consider myself as a temple of God and cherish it. I will do my best so that God will be happy of
everything that I will do with my body.
