Ardreth Mydaiel

Half-elf Rogue (Unchained)

Neutral

Ardreth is the son of Sarya Krisric-Mydaiel (mother/half-elf) and Euric Mydaiel (father/human).
Sarya and Euric had a very common marriage. Neither of their parents objected to the union,
nor did anything disturb their happiness together. The couple was well-off, and Euric made a
very good living as a spice trader in a coastal town (town name to be determined by the
adventure). This may have been why Ardreth never really sought to achieve much.
Growing up loved by both his parents, with more money than he really needed for his sensible
needs; he coasted through much of his schooling and on-the-job training at his father’s
business. He would try his hand at this and that each day. Never stopping long enough to
appreciate the tasks he was doing, nor how to do them well. His laissez-faire attitude was
always a sore spot with his father. Something his father tried everything in his power to force
some ambition into the young man.
A few years after Ardreth grew to full adulthood, his mother and father took a trip to open new
ports of trade and routes of commerce into the kingdom of Razmiran. They knew of the dangers
and took their very best bodyguards and a handful of mercenaries for protection. However, it
was not enough. Ardreth has never found the entire story of how they died. He believes a
follower of Razmir slew them for their wealth, even though it could have been as simple as their
ship sinking in bad weather, or any other of a number of mishaps the could have befallen them.
After that day Ardreth was haunted by their death. Thinking that he could avenge them, he
devoted more and more of his time and money to find out who killed his mother and father. His
father’s spice business was very lucrative, but Ardreth never studied how to operate the
finances to keep the business stable. With huge cash outlays on private investigators that at
best never turned up any evidence, and at worse cheated him out of his money, he finally lost
all hope of finding the killers the lawful way.
Ardreth descended into the underbelly of the city. He lost sight of everything in those years. He
tried to recruit assassins without success, then to hire a group of thugs that wouldn’t be afraid of
killing, but his plans were dashed time and time again. His time cavorting with the scum and
villainy didn’t go unrewarded. In that time he lost everything. The family business went under as
Ardreth threw money around without hesitancy if he thought it would progress his vendetta. He
took loans on the houses, the horses, the lands, everything he had once owned. All were taken
from him when he couldn’t pay back the loan sharks.
Ardreth is now quite in debt to a number of the larger gang leaders in his hometown. His quest
to find out who killed his parents has turned to ashes in his mouth, and he needed to leave
without the money to pay back his debts.
He traveled to the distant city his sister has been living in ever since she showed her aptitude
for magic and has been studying the arcane arts. The one thing he has left is his sister, and he
has vowed to not leave her side. He no longer trusts any of his own decisions on important
subjects and has fallen back into the life of aimless be as it may attitude of his younger self. A
deep despair and an emotional depression have settled over him as deals with his sense of
failure.
His last life’s goal is just to be with his sister, not necessarily as a protector as he believes her
strong enough to protect herself, but just as a brother and as family, and to show her the love he
feels that he might never feel again. His greatest adversary in this endeavor is the numbness
the depression has left him with, and the lack of ability to show or vocalize his feelings to his
sister.
