#SRFforSDGs: SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Eradicating hunger, establishing food security and boosting nutrition, as well as supporting sustainable
agriculture are some major challenges that the world is facing today. As per Global Hunger Index 2020,
India is at 94th Spot among 107 countries. It is responsible for 15% of India’s total disease burden.

SDG 2 is associated with objectives to address challenges of food production, distribution, and access, as
well as nutrition for people of all ages, genders, and socioeconomic groups, and are inextricably linked
to other SDGs.

This post talks about what SDG 2 is, its aim, targets, links to other SDGs, current situation and response
to Covid-19 and India’s progress and performance in this SDG.

Eradicating poverty in all its forms remains one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. 10% of
the world population or 736 million people live in poverty.

“To end poverty in all its forms, everywhere”, the first of the 17 global goals, SDG 1 involves targeting
the most vulnerable, increasing basic resources and services, and supporting communities affected
by conflict and climate-related disasters. It focuses not just on people living in poverty, but also on
