Kirkwood Farmers’ will share how they are “Being the

Market Expo Change.”

Kirkwood Farmers’ Market will
celebrate the completion of the
Greenway expansion area with a
Spring Eggstravaganza and Earth
Day Expo on Saturday, April 23.
The market developed the
Greenway space to provide additional
selling opportunities for local food
producers, artists and other related
small businesses.
Kirkwood Mayor Art McDonnell
will officially open the Greenway
at 9:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting
ceremony. Following the ribbon
cutting will be Kirkwood Farmers’
Market’s second annual Earth Day
Expo and Spring Eggstravaganza.
Vendors and volunteers will provide
information about incorporating
earth-care into daily life.
Kirkwood Living Green will have
specialists to explain composting,
rain gardens and energy efficiency.
St. Louis Herb Society, the Coalition
for the Environment, O.K. Hatchery
and other local “green” organizations
will offer tips and vendors will sell
environmentally-friendly goods.
The Eggstravaganza and Expo
will also include costumed chicken
characters, the Easter Bunny and
live music by Michael “Supe” Granda
and the Dusty Brothers and Fox

23, at the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market.

downtown Kirkwood merchants
will offer sales on spring and Easter
merchandise in their stores.
The Expo at the Farmers’
Market, located at 150 E. Argonne
in downtown Kirkwood, will end
at 3 p.m. Following the Earth Day
festivities at 6:30 p.m. will be a
chicken buffet dinner and concert
by the Real Macaws at Highlands
Restaurant, 105 E. Jefferson. Tickets
for the show will be sold at the Expo
for $20, $25 at the Highlands door.
Earth Day Festival
In Forest Park
This year’s Earth Day Festival on
the Muny Grounds in Forest Park
marks the 22nd celebration of its kind
in St. Louis.
The festival, themed “Be the
Change,” will take place on Sunday,
April 17 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Two
stages will be set up for live music
and cultural performances. Over 200
artists, educational exhibitors, food
vendors, businesses and organizations
This year, the celebration will
feature a Recycling Extravaganza
on the parking lot of the St. Louis
Community College-Forest Park
campus off Oakland Avenue.
Interactive features of the festival
include a holistic Relaxation
Station, a parade and an open art

Party For The
Planet At The Zoo
On Sunday, April 17, the St. Louis
Zoo in Forest Park will host a Party
for the Planet to celebrate Earth Day.
Different Earth Day stations and
activities will be held around the zoo.
Visitors will learn about composting,
the importance of bugs in Missouri
and biodiversity. Children can make
butterfly wings, play a pelt matching
game and compete in a Recycle Race.
Along with the stations, the Bob
Case band will perform environment-
related songs and various animal
keepers will host chats. Party for the
Planet is part of the St. Louis Earth
Day Festival in Forest Park. For more

Recycling Event April 16
Secure and eco-friendly recycling will be offered
Saturday, April 16, 9 a.m. to noon, at St. Gerard
Majella Parish, Ballas and Dougherty Ferry roads
in Kirkwood.
Items accepted include: computers, printers,
VCRs, DVD players, electronics, and small home
appliances. Computer CRT monitors and TVs less
than 30 inches cost $10 to cover proper disposal
cost. TVs larger than 30 inches, call for price. All
other equipment is recycled for free.
Computer recycling includes data destruction.

Earth Day At MoBot
On Saturday, April 23, the Missouri Botanical
Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd. in St. Louis, will feature
“green” activities all day long in celebration of
Earth Day, including live entertainment and
educational exhibits.
Activities are included in the garden admission
fees, $8 for adults and $4 for St. Louis city and

Panel Discussion April 15
“Environmental Activism in 2011” is the topic for
a special panel discussion on Friday, April 15, 11
a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Sunnen Lounge at Webster
University, Big Bend at Edgar Road..
Several St. Louis environmental activists
will explain the state of activism in St. Louis.
Among the topics will be lead poisoning, dioxin
contamination, nuclear issues, air and water
pollution. Panelists will talk about the issues and
how they work with the news media.
