The Development of Learning Tools through a Realistic

Mathematical Approach to Improve the Capability of Mathematical Representation.

The learning process expected by the 2013 curriculum is learning that is meaningful,
active, interactive and contextual. One approach that is in line with these expectations
is the Realistic Mathematical Approach (RME), where a realistic mathematical
approach can foster characters such as independence, democracy, tolerance,
responsibility, critical thinking, creative and honesty. This study aims to obtain
mathematical learning tools with a realistic mathematical approach to improve
mathematical representation capabilities that meet valid, practical, and effective
criteria. The development of the learning kit follows the Plomp procedure consisting
of three stages: (1) the initial investigation phase; (2) prototype phase; (3) Assessment
Phase. Learning tools developed in the form of lesson plans, Student Worksheets
(LKPD), and Mathematical Representation Ability Tests (TKRM). The method of
data collection is done through validation sheets, observation sheets of the
implementation of learning, and questionnaire responses of teachers and students. The
results of the validation of the RPP, LKPD and TKRM instruments were found that
the equipment was declared valid / feasible to be used with a few revisions as
suggested by the validator. Trials of the implementation of learning in the classroom
and improving the ability of mathematical representation is quite good. Based on the
results of the analysis of the research data, it was found that the learning tools
developed met valid, practical and effective criteria. So the learning tools in this study
can be used and used as a guide for teachers to develop other learning devices in
accordance with the characteristics of learning.
