Reasons Behind the Anti-Colonial Movement:

After World War II, rapid anti-colonization swept across the continent of Africa as many
territories gained their independence from European colonization. Many reasons were behind
this. Some main reasons were given bellow-

1. WWII was a major factor in the anti-colonization of Africa. Britain and France, the main
colonial powers in Africa, were broke after WWII and simply could not afford to keep
their colonies.

2. Europeans could not oppose the new superpowers the U.S. and the Soviet Union’s stands
against colonialism.

3. Africa began producing a small group of well-educated leaders, many the beneficiaries of
scholarships from the USA and the USSR. These leaders came back to Africa and
immediately began movement for anti-colonization.

4. Strong anti-colonial movement was built in colonies.

5. Demographics helped Africans a lot for the win in the movement. Because the Europeans
were tine in number in the face of Africans and pressure was always going to build on
them to leave.
