Have you ever seen or eaten foreign food that you thought was weird and gross, such as fried
crickets? This is an example of ethnocentrism! That is, you focus on your own culture and judge other
cultures based on it. You make judgment or make assumptions about the food of other country based
on your own norms, values, or beliefs. Thinking “people shouldn't eat insects” is an example of
ethnocentrism in societies where people aren't really advised to eat insects.
