CSZD2223 – ASSESSMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMME

1. Define assessment from the children’s development perspective.

Assessment from the children’s development perspective, it means the process of

observation, recording, documentation and assessing of children based on developmental
domains.

2. Discuss in detail any TWO (2) aims of assessment.

The aim of assessment is to identify actual need. After assessment, teachers will
know children’s needs and make further action. When we assess we will find out that
children have strengths and weaknesses. So from the strengths and weaknesses that exist
in children, we can take further action. What children need, should teaching be improved,
should we discard the inappropriate and replace it with new ones. This needs including the
children’s ability and limitation.

The second aim of assessment is a guideline of problem-solving. The aim of this

assessment is the same as the aim above, when we have identified, where the strengths
and weaknesses of children, indirectly, we will have a guide for us to solve the problem.
Source and level of difficulties can be identified and act as a guideline to parents and
teachers. When we do assessments on children, we can know the difficulties, we can see
maybe many children fail in one test. One of the reasons may be that the question is too
difficult. So since the question is too difficult, we will create another level of difficulty that may
be a little easier. So when we have an assessment, we have a guide to solve the problem.
