commander are the great war heroes of the BoB. They were members of the anti-French

b) The speaker praises these people because they are war heroes and in the ruling class's version
of any battle heroes are praiseworthy.

a) The context of the given lines is the BoB in Robert Southey's poem 'After Blenheim' where
Kaspar is narrating the events of the BoB to his curious grandchildren, Peterkin and wilhelmine.
Here Kaspar admits that he is unable to specify what good came as a result of the war and hence
gives the children the ruling party's version of the BoB.
b) The conversation is going on between Old Kaspar and his little grandchildren, Peterkin and
Wilhelmine. Peterkin had unearthed a large, round and smooth object near the rivulet and his
curiosity caused him to take the object home to his grandfather

unanswered as his grandfather Old Kaspar had accepted the ruling classes' version of the Bob
and thus had never critically thought about it.
