Class Test #4 , Trimester: Summer, Year: 2021
Course: EEE 4211/ EEE471 (Section –A), Title: Transmission and
Distribution Systems
Marks: 40, Time: 40 Minutes + 10 Minutes to upload

1. For a 3-phase transmission system is supplying the following loads at 11kV [20]
having the below daily load cycle:
1. 30 MW for 6 hours at 0.8 P.F lag
2. 35 MW for 8 hours at 0.9 P.F lag
3. 20 MW for 10 hours at unity P.F

The cost of a 3-phase overhead transmission line is TK (12000+6000a) per km.

where ‘a’ is the area of cross-section of each conductor in cm2. Interest and
depreciation cost is 15% per annum and the cost of energy is 6.5Tk./kwh.
Resistivity of conductor material is 1·72 × 10−6 Ω cm.
Find the most economical size of the conductor.

2. A 3-phase ring main ABC (as shown in Figure Q2) fed at A at 11 kV supplies [20]
balanced loads of 60 A with 0.83 p.f. lagging at B, 75 A with 0·92 lagging at C,
the load currents being referred to the supply voltage at A. The impedances of
the various sections are :
Section AB = (1.8 + j 0·6) Ω ; Section BC = (3.8 + j 5) Ω; CA = (1·5 + j 0·8)

Calculate the station bus-bar voltages at B and C.
