COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES

ADJECTIVES: Adjectives are words that describe or


modify other words.
EXAMPLE:
Big
Small
Angry
Sad
COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES: They are used to
compare two things.
EXAMPLE:
MARIA IS TALLER THAN SARA.
RULES:
1.When the adjective has one syllable we add –ER-
EXAMPLE:
old = oldER than viejo= más viejo que
fast = fastER than rápido= mas rápido que

Carlos is older than Juan


Marcos is faster than Camilo
2- When the adjective ends in –Y- we change
Y for i and add er:
EXAMPLE:
Happy= Happier than feliz= Más feliz que
Easy=Easier than fácil= Más fácil que

Sandra is happier than Sofia.


Spanish is easier than math.
3- If the adjective ends in –e- we just add –r- :
EXAMPLE:
Late=LateR than tarde= más tarde que
Nice=NiceR than lindo= más lindo que

Carlos arrived later than Pedro.


The teddy is nicer than the doll.
4- If the adjective ends in three or more syllabes we
just add –more- before the adlective:
EXAMPLE:
Modern= More modern than.
Expensive= More expensive than.

Cars are more expensive than motorcycles.


Silvia is more beautiful than Claudia.
5-If the adjective is
CONSONANT+VOWEL+CONSONANT we add a
CONSONANT more:
EXAMPLE:
Big= BigGER Grande= Más grande.
Hot= HotTER Caliente= Más caliente.

Barranquilla is hotter than Bogotá.


Giraffes are bigger than hippos.
IRREGULAR:

Good= Better Bueno=Mejor.


Bad= Worse Malo= Peor.

Soda is better than Beer.


Soaps opera are worse than movies.
